Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 13, 2014 2:54 pm We are doing an extension to our home and engaged council as our PCA. After 2 inspections and them passing the builders work and we had considerable issues with the building quality we engaged an independent building inspector. His report found many defects including all wall frames out of plumb 25-30mm, insufficient roof supports, no expansion joints in brick walls, roof sheeting with holes and considerably scratched, poorly fitted sarking....the list goes on. And the council PCA was happy to pass all this (probably because he walked into one room for 5 mins, listened to the garbage and ****** our builder told, ticked the paperwork and walked out). Not happy that we are paying council for this service and they checked nothing!!!! Should we meet with the council PCA and show him the defect list from the building inspector and ask why he found none of this?????? Just worried he will keep passing our building with major defects! Re: Council PCA vs Independant building inspector 2Dec 14, 2014 9:19 am Our ex builder engaged council as the PCA. 2 separate inspectors passed our piers and slab as successful when in fact it was 590mm over the approved height, had no drop edge beams and the builder had not installed safety fences, signs, toilet, soil erosion control. Essentially the builder allowed all this to happen and the Council did not stop him as they should have. Long story short our Council is corrupt and they all should be sacked as they think they did nothing inappropriate despite demolition of the slab a few months later for non compliance! Not sure what state you are in but in NSW even the Council certifiers have the Building Professionals Board to answer too. it is worth approaching them with your findings and asking them to intervene. I agree with you that it is concerning that Council pass works they should not. Most of the time, council will push you out to a private certifier as it ties up their limited resources. Where a builder has gone belly up, the certifier passes the file… 7 5369 I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2264 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45544 |
