Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 11, 2014 10:54 pm Hi I hope no one minds me posting this here. I have just stumbled across this website and wish I had found it earlier. We are building in the Trinity Estate, Alkimos, Perth with Home Group WA. The estate is wired with Opticomm fibre optic. At our pre start we took all the documents relevant to the estate and all was good, we paid $292 in our contract for a conduit for the NBN from the pit to the garage roof. We have just been informed today that we did not include in our contract to become "opticomm ready" I disputed this and said that we had taken all the relevant documents to pre start and why would we bother asking them to do half the job? they are standing by the stance that as we did not put it in our contract it is not their problem I have lodged a complaint with the Building Ombudsman but i wondered if anyone else had came across anything like this. I called Intelligent home who are the main installer and they advised their basic package if $1100. This is money we just do not have at the end of a build given that we still have lots to pay out to finish the property. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks Re: home group wa and opticomm 2Dec 12, 2014 12:00 am A lot of builders are doing this and basically if that is all they are contracted to do then you can't expect anything else. So essentially they have said they will provide a conduit from the Telstra pit to the home which will then allow you to engage an approved contractor to complete the works after handover. Most builders don't want the headaches associated with nbn so they do the bare minimum. I would say though that irrespective the costs would have been more than what you have been quoted as they would add margin to this as well so you are probably saving money in the long run even if it is money you had not budgeted for. P.s complaints such as this should be directed to the building commission of Western Australia. I don't think in this case you should do so if the contract states they are only to install a conduit. This just made our house NBN ready when it does hit our area. In the meantime, we have Opticomm - FTTH which is already available to utilise (vs NBN which like I said hasn't rolled out to our estate yet). An additional $300-500 depending on estate is payable directly to Opticomm to activate the service for your address. Once that's done we then had to select from a list of providers to obtain an Internet package. So all in all what have I learned? We are paying too much for data that I am told the service is severely lagging behind much of the world.. --- 4 14597 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16687 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35558 |
