Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 02, 2014 8:26 am Hi all, I just got a really good deal on home and contents insurance through Woolworths Insurance - it was $850/year compared to AAMI who quoted $1700 It prompted me to read the PDS to make sure the insurance was worth the paper it was written on - all seems ok, apart from the fact that we are not covered for any events arising from "actions by the sea" (including tsunamis, storm surges, unusually high tides, cyclones and the like) - we are less then 100m from the ocean on fairly flat ground, so the alarm bells went off. I researched a number of other policies and they all seem to have this clause in there. Can anyone recommend a policy that does cover such events? should I worry about it? Re: New house - Home and contents Insurance near the ocean 2Dec 02, 2014 4:40 pm I think gio cover for flood however it happens. It would depend where you live I guess. I don't worry about tsunami or anything but I like to be covered for the '100 year floods'. We're near the ocean but elevated this time. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Re: New house - Home and contents Insurance near the ocean 3Dec 02, 2014 9:47 pm i just checked GIO's PDS - Actions or movements of the sea means: ` rises in the level of the ocean or sea; ` sea waves; ` high tides or king tides; ` any other actions or movements of the sea. Actions or movements of the sea do not include a tsunami or storm surge so you're covered for storm or tsunami, but not any other damage caused by the above. I guess insurance companies are taking rising sea levels & climate change seriously?! Re: New house - Home and contents Insurance near the ocean 4Dec 02, 2014 10:08 pm I have more to worry about than most, 4 M from king tide and 1M elevation and don't think anyone will insure that. But that's life and you have to take your chances. People in Qld get wiped by cyclone or floods every 3 years so what's the diff? However if someone found the policy I would like to know about it Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Hi Suku18 In NSW the statutory required insurances are: 1.
