I'm wondering if anyone has heard of or fitted a whole house water filter system?
I know about those under sink water filters for the kitchen, but anyone did it for the whole house? Or is it a waste of money to do so?
Thanks

I personally feel that it is a waste to do it in Australia since the water is safe to drink and there is not much point in taking a bath or washing dishes with filtered water. However, it will be good washing the car with filtered water since it will not leave any water marks! Re: Whole house water filters? 3Nov 26, 2014 9:08 pm I personally feel water filters are a waste of money unless you are on bore water, then they may have some effect, but fairly minimal and you'll have to change them often. I am guessing you're on bore water? Dale - Building Newbie Proserpine, QLD Re: Whole house water filters? 4Nov 28, 2014 10:05 am We put in a whole house water filter (or our plumber did) and the water tasted instantly better. We are on bore water and it's disgusting. Even spraying water out of the iron comes out in salt crystals. Through the filter, the water is nice tasting and no problems with sediment. Yes the water is safe but unless you want white sediment building up on everything, and ruining your water hardware, I would recommend it 10 times over. Even making rice here on bore water, tastes 'off' and slightly of chlorine. The change after putting in the filter has been huge. Can now cook and clean with tap water! Here is a picture of ours. The plumber made the bracket and we purchased it online from waterfilterworld.com It needs a new filter about 3 times a year which I'm happy to do. Re: Whole house water filters? 7Nov 30, 2014 10:56 am Thanks for the comments everyone, I should have been clearer in my initial post as I forgot to state that I am living in the metro area. However someone we knew had installed a whole house water filter at his place (also in metro area), so we were wondering if it was any use. We are especially concerned about the water sediments forming on the taps, showers and tiles in the new build. Our plumbed fridge - ice and water - does have a filter. We usually drink all our water from this. But - as said above - our water is pretty good - compared to OS. We have the water to the fridge and another filter tap running through the filter. Eliminates all the chlorine smell and taste, for those that find this disagreeable. The plus side to this is that it replaces the fridge filter at a quarter of the replacement cost, plus last more than twice as long. Is there a risk in doing nothing - just resetting the button ? Re: Whole house water filters? 13Dec 01, 2014 9:04 am Well it'd be my guess is that all that will happen is that your water flow would gradually reduce right down to nothing for when the filter finally blocks up. However if your water supply is clean, then I think you could go on for quite some time. I'm not sure how the fridge can know if it really needs to be replaced, and it either guesses on the total volume of water that has passed through it, or a time frame it has been operating for. Since the filter is before the fridge (guessing here), how could the fridge know it really does need replacing ? Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
