Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 25, 2014 4:42 pm Has anybody had any experience of getting a street sign moved? We bought some land off the plan, but checked the house we wanted to fit the land first. We managed to get on the land when it was close to completion about 5 weeks ago and the comms pit had appeared in the path of our driveway. I am still working on getting approval to put the driveway around it, but am not holding my breath on that one. We then decided to work with the builder to see what can be done to move the Garage to the other side of the house. After quite a bit of work they have managed to do. We went to visit the land again on the weekend, which is now complete and waiting to be registered, and they have placed a street sign where the driveway would be if we move it to the other side. I need to move the street sign 3m to the left, which will still leave it facing the street opposite, just not sure how easy it will be. This is one of the dangers of buying land off the plan, all sorts of things can end up on the land or in front that are not on the plan that can cause issues when you come to build...We have a manhole at the back that was not on the plan, but it does not impact us. Re: Anybody know how easy it is to get a Street Sign moved 2Nov 25, 2014 9:28 pm You could always do a 'sne aky' and move it yourself one night. Provided that the new location doesn't detract the purpose of the sign, which it appears it won't, no one will say 'boo' about the overnight move. The reason why I say it, the local council might simply dig their heels in and say NO if you ask them, or even want to charge you a fortune for the relocation. You need to weigh up the pros and cons of doing it yourself ! Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Anybody know how easy it is to get a Street Sign moved 3Nov 26, 2014 11:08 am Im truly surprised bpratt has gone for a break the rules style solution, but I fully agree with it. For what it is worth and the drama involved in getting council to adjust it (with a fee most likely), a casual relocation under darkess one weekend night sounds like just the ticket. Re: Anybody know how easy it is to get a Street Sign moved 4Nov 26, 2014 1:47 pm For sure, go with the above solutions. A client tried to do the right thing by Manly Council with the same problem and the red tape he encountered was extraordinary. The two council workers who came out to eventually do it four months later told him the same as above ! Stewie Only two? I would have thought 4 as a minimum? One to lean on a shovel at all times at least. LOL Re: Anybody know how easy it is to get a Street Sign moved 6Nov 28, 2014 12:10 pm Looks like we now don't need the signed to be moved, as the developers have worked with the Owners of the Pit and they have agree to move it so it is in the same location as the sign post. This allows us to build the house in it's original location. Just waiting for the pit to be relocated which I was told should be done very soon... I also go a response from the Council, and they basically said the Sign can be moved with reason, which is basically is can only moved to a location that the sign still serves it purpose, so was basically told it can be moved the 3m if required as long as it can still be seem from traffic leaving the street opposite.
