Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 16, 2014 3:03 pm Just a question - can you retrofit Anticon roofing blanket on existing Colorbond roof? I just finished constructing the house 2 months ago and now with summer hitting 35c-40c on my Colorbond roof I am trying to find ways to shield my house from radiant heat from the sun. Putting in the Anticon I think will lower my electricity bill as my Daikin ducted aircon will not need to work as hard. "Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is almost always somebody screwed up." George Carlin Re: Can you retrofit Anticon roofing blanket on Colorbond ro 5Nov 16, 2014 8:56 pm I'm quite surprised that it wasn't done in the first place ! When I got my roof done, the roofers always quoted at least one if not both thicknesses of anticon under the colourbond, even though I chose Surfmist colour for my roof. To retrofit, you have to take all the roof off and put them back on in the same position to match up the existing screw holes, and that's pretty labour intensive, so quite pricey. Cheaper option right now would be to get a couple of solar powered fans installed in the roof to suck the hot air out. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. It makes the air con working extra hard and wasting way more energy to cool down the interior space as the air in the pipe is heated by the ceiling space. Quote: Just curious what colour is your roof? It is Windspray - it is a grey color just two down from Surfmist and Shale Grey. I think right now, my other option is to just COVER MY ROOF with solar panels! Since solar panels will have an air gap between the roof and it, it won't trap heat and will not transfer the heat down quickly enough. It will also lower my electricity bill! I am thinking an 8 KW system (32 panels... will probably cover up my entire roof) will just about do it, but it will cost around $13,000.................. "Occam's Razor. One of my reasons for installing panels was the additional roof shading. You might consider thin film panels rather than mono/poly crystalline panels. When I bought them (about 4 years ago) they were cheaper per watt, but larger/ and I could see the advantage of covering more of my roof.
