Since solar panels will have an air gap between the roof and it, it won't trap heat and will not transfer the heat down quickly enough. It will also lower my electricity bill! I am thinking an 8 KW system (32 panels... will probably cover up my entire roof) will just about do it, but it will cost around $13,000.................. One of my reasons for installing panels was the additional roof shading. You might consider thin film panels rather than mono/poly crystalline panels. When I bought them (about 4 years ago) they were cheaper per watt, but larger/ and I could see the advantage of covering more of my roof.
