Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 2Jun 10, 2008 8:27 pm We've only just started and I've already put a packet of garbage bags in my car. There is stuff they've unearthed whilst excavating, the builders lunch wrappers, and I'm sure every person who walks buy throws their rubbish over the fence. Fi has moved in!! Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 3Jun 10, 2008 9:16 pm YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every single night I pick up lunch rubbish but I am getting use to it. I suppose I just want to make sure that visiting tradesman have respect for the house and if it is clean then I think this would more likely be the case...I dont know. Any way...I must get a life and stop worrying about things like rubbish Mrs B Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 6Jun 10, 2008 9:58 pm I can't help myself either - I clean it up every weekend - the paper wrappers aren't so bad - it's all the half eaten food and half filled coffee cups that get to me. Already a massive flock of ravens have moved into the estate to feast on discarded Big Macs (blech). The rats and the cockroaches will no doubt move in before we do Oh, and I love how the tradies use the frame to wipe their muddy boots on!!!!aaarrgh Built a Clarendon 'Balmain' 2008 Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 7Jun 10, 2008 10:58 pm our site looks like a tip. And with all the rain and mud there are pools of rubbish ****** everyone.
I'm certainly not cleaning up after them so it can stay there (as much as I can't stand looking at it) until they clean the site. One of the tradies was smoking in the house yesterday ... grrrrrr . I wanted to tell him off but then he might not do a good job <over a barrel >. Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 9Jun 11, 2008 9:47 am yes, I agree with Al: until you move in its not really your problem, just ignore it, it will all be gone before handover.
Even smoking: much as I dislike it and don't let anyone smoke inside my house, there won't be any lingering odour by the time you move in, its soft furnishings like carpets and curtains that trap cigarette smoke and they wont be in the house until the last minute. Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 10Jun 11, 2008 11:34 am We went into our place at frame/roof stage and did a big clean....we then put the pics up on the forum/blog.....and then got into trouble for being on-site!!!
We were told that the builder pays for someone to come on-site periodically and clean up. So after that, we didn't bother....I agree with Al, as long as it's clean when i get it, thats fine by me! Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 11Jun 11, 2008 2:56 pm Yep, it drives me nuts as well (i"m pretty sure it's a female thing!!!) But, having read of others cleaning up,a nd it all being messed up again, I decided from the start to just try to ignore it...it's hard , though, trying to imagine it all clean and ready to move into when it's such a mess, esp the inside!!! Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 12Jun 12, 2008 3:04 pm it seems like my builder or contractors are very clean. We are waiting for the bricks to go up (it has been raining for the last 3 weeks) and they covered the bricks with black tarp to protect it from the weather and cleaned the site. I think we must have the cleanliest site on the street. They even removed the junk that gets thrown over (e.g broken chairs, gardening pots ). Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 13Jun 12, 2008 9:35 pm There is no reason or excuse for a site to be untidy & at the end of the day it comes back to the proficiency of the site supervisor.
I would not tolerate any trades being slack in regards to keeping a site clean as it not only reflects on the image of the 'builder' but also refects on the professionalism of the particular tradesperson. The fact that "he's a ruddy good plasterer so we'll excuse every thing else" doesn't cut it. A professional is a professional in not only his work performance but also in his total onsite attitude & the knowledge that he is working for someone that 'image' is [should be] a major part of Client relationship. Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 14Jun 12, 2008 10:00 pm We visited the house on the way home from work tonight and it was dark by the time we got there. There also aren't any street lights connected yet. As we drove up we saw a young lad lurking in our garage. DH jumped out the car the second the wheels stopped turning, and said 'hey mate ...what are you doing'
Turns out the fella was there cleaning up the yard . Poor guy got quite a shock. DH isn't taking any chances since the gyprock was kicked in a few weeks back. And now we have a nice clean site ... Re: Does the mess onsite drive you..... 15Jun 13, 2008 10:01 pm Our building contact yesterday during prestart told us when her sister was building she'd go in every day and sweep the concrete floor of her new build...
Was talking to someone today and it turns out they run their own plastering company. Anyway the mess some tradies leave on site came up. She told me a few horror stories about things she had seen. urgh not nice and I won't repeat. She said she tells her workers if they disrespect the place they are working on it's not on. Demands they keep a clean job and won't accept anything else. anyway I've told her about this forum and she may end up joining. Yeah mine about 9 metres long and 8 wide with slope of 25% at one point but the end point of the outlet is past the side of garage and if he concretes allowing for… 4 4549 I've just built 3 stairs off a landing out the back and been told by the private certifier I need hand rails sorry tried to attach a pic but couldn't mine don't have sides… 5 5722 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits. There's only one… 7 12796 |
