Re: Instantaneous or Storage hot water? 12Oct 25, 2014 5:19 pm bashworth bpratt You can't have solar on instantaneous system, as solar needs a storage tank. Not correct . . . Our last house had Instantaneous Gas with Solar. It worked by having a large solar storage tank with the Instantaneous system on the outlet. This boosted the water temperature if the water from the tank wasn't hot enough. I guess I should have qualified my statement by saying that instantaneous systems do not have storage tanks, but there are gas boosted solar systems that do the gas boosting after the tank if water in the tank isn't up to temperature. Depending upon your circumstances a mid element electric boosting could actually be a cheaper system to run than gas boosting, as gas boosting heats the water to 70 or 75 degrees, only to go via a tempering valve back down to 50 degrees. Definately if looking at going hybrid or completely off grid mid element electric boosting is the way to go. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
