Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 18, 2014 11:05 am I thought engineer's charged around $400/500 for slab and footing design. I much prefer to ask questions about building than costing but I've had feedback that $1000 for slab and footing design before GST is a bit hefty. Then again it is split level in 3 places, garage/rumpus, followed by laundry & study then remaining floor area for a total around 244m2. The house is 2 levels high. Beam and column design was $300. This is my first build and even with months of research there are many areas where my knowledge falters and other people's knowledge and experience is gold. If it is a fair ball park price then I'll accept it but the designer is a bit shocked. The engineer is the builder's preferred choice. Re: Slab and Footing Design Costing 2Oct 18, 2014 1:44 pm We paid $1254 in 2010 for engineering drawings which included Slab and Footing plan, Roof beam layout and wall bracing and brick articulation plan. This was for a single story house of 18.7 square metres. We were told that was cheap. Re: Slab and Footing Design Costing 3Oct 18, 2014 2:03 pm Just recently paid for ours in September. $1870 + GST included preparation of structural details including pier and beam footings, suspended slab for ground floor, slab on ground for garage, structural steel beams as necessary to support first floor and fence footings. Im in Sydney if that makes a difference. Where are you at Acaicas? From both your post and Liliana's the price sounds reasonable. I'll see if the Engineer can include more of the engineering stuff like "Roof beam layout and wall bracing and brick articulation plan." The wife was right, new coffee machine, you're kidding. Re: Slab and Footing Design Costing 5Oct 19, 2014 8:59 am Hi Ohhh , How can you replace a good engineer with Coffee, LOL, Fair go Find a good engineer and pay him MORE. They earn a small fraction of what Architects/Designers/NewHomeSalesman earn and they are worth every $ There is a saying in the industry "Engineers are like doctors we bury our mistakes Architects/Designers just plant Vines." And they get paid more Go figure? Coming from an engineering family (father has passed away) I value Engineer's probably more than any other group in society. Anyhow an explanation for that another day. What was meant was that with the designer prepping me for a $400 cost of design and it will rather start with over $1400 I just lost my coffee machine. I wanted a Lelit Mara - around $2400. Me - big eyes. My wife hit me, and so I settled on a Breville $1200 jobby. Wife swatted me again. So this time I asked if I could spend $400 on a little basic coffee machine. What about that one my mrs says, it's on special for $340 but baby ... So yes Engineer's are worth it it just means I might be making Baldrick style Coffee. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 15808 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7302 PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 10209 |
