Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 13, 2014 2:47 pm We are thinking to widen our driveway which is too narrow. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Due to medical conditions etc we are unable to do it ourself. I am thinking to use serviceseek.com.au but not sure sure which trade person is more suitable. (1) Wondering what sort of trade person should we be looking for? (2) Secondly, I understand the driveway material we choose is also a big factor to consider when we expand the drive. Adding a stretch of additional concrete or asphalt may be the simplest approach, but due to age and weathering, there could be differences in color between the original driveway and expansion that can create an odd look. So how should we overcome this problem? Anna Re: How to widen this driveway please? 2Oct 13, 2014 10:57 pm Hi thehuntbegins, You need a bricklayer who will do the footings as well, but you will also need to remove the old footings and carefully remove the bricks so that you can re-use them. You might also need to consider the gas, water line and meter? and any other services such as stormwater (unlikely), sewer (unlikely), underground electricity(?). Not easy when you think about it. A builder might be a good idea because they have access to al such trades. Not sure if you really need a permit for the alteration to the front fence so don't ask is my advice. You'll also need to consider agricultural drainage behind the wall or may need a structural engineer for the 900mm high wall and footing design. (See why the previous owner didn't do it)? Then to the drive itself... There are numerous approaches to this, but one is to cut out the drive to where you start to widen the drive - wall to wall, but there will still be a distinct demarcation - but if the existing drive is reinforced that will give a good line to key in the new to the old. There are many finishes available but you will always be able to tell in my opinion... unless you coat the entire drive, but many such installations wear out rather fast, cheers Leonardo_23 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9799 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10892 |
