Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 08, 2014 6:58 am Hey all, I have just replaced the treated pine barge boards (6x1). We have also just had a treated pine fence put up. What are everyone's thoughts on a low cost option stain to put on them? I heard a few years ago that diesel sump oil is one way to do it. I also heard that the oil can stink a fair bit too.....that will probably make the neighbours cry. Can't upset them, they are making our peaceful little home a living hell....anyhow, what can I paint/stain the fence and barge boards with? Here's the fence below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers Chriso Re: What to paint treated pine barge boards with?? 2Oct 08, 2014 9:13 am I used a normal clear oil on my treated pine retaining wall and steps - it really made it look good. So many people asked what the wood was ... It makes the wood "come-out" - darkens the pine a bit - but improved the look. I used "clear" though - no colour at all. Thanks saint Mike, When you say oil, do you mean deck oil? Yes - but look for the ones on "special". You often find it in bigger cans too. It can be a little more - but lasts well and looks good. But - the "clear"" or "natural" some call it. 4 4222 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you going to have the frame exposed or are you cladding it with something.
