Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 28, 2014 4:00 pm We have just started our build, slab went down on Wednesday. When we were at the site having a look I was really unhappy with we're the from tap is located. It is right in front of the entry in the middle of the footpath and the porch. I wanted to have a path leading from the footpath up to the front porch but won't be able to do this with the tap in its current location. I've looked over our drawings to see how I could have missed this and I've realised it's not even on them. Hubby says there must be more drawings as the chippies would need more info about window sizes ect (he is a chippy so works with house plans all the time). Anyway my question is do I have a right to asked them to move it considering we didn't sign off on its location? Only want it moved a couple of meters. Thanks Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 3Sep 29, 2014 4:13 pm Anything is possible with the right $$$$ Building with Jandson Homes - Eclipse 18. http://adgnetworks.blogspot.com/ Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 4Oct 10, 2014 10:51 am the question is are you talking about the water meter or a tap attached to the wall? If it is the water meter, they can generally only be moved about a metre depending on the water authority. It does cost to do so however. If you want it moved more, the price then jumps substantially. If it is a tap on the wall, it should have been on the plans by selection time and you would have had a chance to move it them. Generally to move it after construction has commenced, many builders charge an administration fee + the cost to actually move it. Can end up costing quite a bit. If it wasn't on the plans prior to going to construction, you may have some re-course, but I would speak to the construction manager and see what they have to say regarding it. Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 6Oct 11, 2014 3:25 pm Thanks for the advise everyone. Hubby pointed out to me the other day that it is the meter as well, thanks for the tip dgriffen. So looks like its staying where it is unfortunately. Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 7Oct 11, 2014 9:25 pm I can feel your pain Emz, we will have exact same issue. Best way a friend of mine done this recently by hiring a plumber to move both water taps along with meters by 1.5m. Cost was around $500. Not as nominal as I thought!!! --- Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 9Oct 11, 2014 10:35 pm Water company is a pain to deal with and builder generally refers you to contact water company. Just do it post handover by any licensed plumber. Re: Can I ask my builder to move my front water tap? 10Oct 12, 2014 10:07 pm It's easy to do your self if your handy. We did ours in our first house and will be doing it again in our new one. You need to dig and follow the street side of the meter. You'll find a tap under the ground. Turn this off and then you can disconnect the meter and re route the copper pipe. I don't recommend this to anyone who has never worked with copper pipe before. *Also am not suggesting doing it without the council authority* (*wink wink) I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15275 I have a home gym at home.
