Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 17, 2014 7:36 am Hi, I'm having a ducted air conditioning unit installed in our new McDonald Jones home. It is a Actron ESP Platinum Ultima and I'm worried about the weight of the return air unit which sits in the roof. According to the spec sheet, it weighs 62kgs and what concerns me is in the roof cavity, a note states not to change the configuration of the frame (it is steel) or add hot water or A/C units as it may compromise the integrity of the roof. My question is, when the builder plans the house, do they factor in extra strength in the roof for adding A/C units, hot water/Solar systems? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Re: Installing Ducted Air Conditioning 3Sep 17, 2014 11:38 am No Saint Mike, although they offered us a deal on a Derby, I decided to install after handover with a better unit as the MJH price was to high for the same one.. I'm putting in a daiken and they said that the 85 kg would void the warranty on my house. I said the them, what happens when your fat ar$e tradies get up there to do electrical or insulation or whatever? They reneged their comment. Also they will spread the load over several trusses so the effective weight per truss is low. Re: Installing Ducted Air Conditioning 6Sep 18, 2014 7:32 am Thanks for the replies. I will talk to the installer and see what they will do for spreading the load.
