The main difference will be the color of them, if you can afford the Gertrudis Brown it looks fantastic. It's priced on par with Bowral Blue though. The lighter color brickes are cheaper as they spend less time in the kilne. p.s. after seeing how big the holes have gotten in the wire cut bricks I'm all for spending the extra on solid dry pressed bricks. Recently saw some new bricks at a home build that had holes the size of coke cans in them. Seemed like they are cutting out as much clay as possible. Re: Bowral brown or gertrudis brown bricks? 3Sep 03, 2014 4:08 am Thanks for the info. Yeah we are going ahead with one of the two. The colour of them is beautiful. I was concerned about the holes in the middle but after doing. Some research found out that this was a lot better Re: Bowral brown or gertrudis brown bricks? 5Sep 03, 2014 12:52 pm Jayjay84 My builder priced gettudis brown and bowral brown at the same price and bowral blue at triple If that's the case then I would go for the Gertrudis Brown, it has some variation and is pretty classy brick. The Bowral Blue in my opinion has become too blue, the older variety had a bit of brown in it. Most of the old buildings built in Sydney where done with these dry pressed bricks, they have a remarkably smooth face whch is harder to get with a wire cut brick. They are a lot more solid a brick too, which obviously improves sound deadening and thermal properties. Were building with Bowral Murray Grey and though along the same lines, looked at using flush mortar finish. It took me a lot of research to find that Bowral bricks re reccomended with an Ironed Finish. It's more of a rolled look and makes the brick stand out a little better. Originally I had specified flush, but have changed to ironed. I would look into an Ironed finish and see if you like that. You want the brick to be the focal point first, not the grout. Btw I would double check your grout color, an off-white mortar would set those bricks off nicely.
