Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 03, 2008 11:54 pm Fellow members, i know its great to have fun on here, i think that is one of the reasons that makes Homeone so popular, BUT it is becoming increasing obvious that more and more threads are being taken off track with comments that are not relevant to the topic.
I would prefer that if you are posting a reply that it is relevant to the initial topic. We need to be a little more respectful to the member who originally raised the thread - and the fact that they are asking a question and are expecting informative answers - that is the main reason for the forum after all. The Coffee Break forum has been spefically created for the non-building related topics/discussions and has been extremely popular since its creation. I know we all enjoy a good laugh, but i'd appreciate it if we could keep it at a mature level. Thanks Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 5Jun 04, 2008 7:36 am But I thought lawn moving & hedge maintenance was more than suitable for this forum??? Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 11Jun 04, 2008 10:53 am Whoops!
I'm a big culprit of this. Sorry, I'll refrain from asking questions about my own personal situation in other people's thread. Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 12Jun 04, 2008 10:59 am As Paula said - sometimes things just "evolve" on their own accord. We all can be guilty of this - mods and admin included....
I think if we ALL just make a little more effort not to wander too far, and to try and keep the fun to the "coffee break", everyone is happy. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 13Jun 04, 2008 10:59 am Duminda,
No offence taken. Valid point. Sorry about that. and Wonderland, I think the problem is more the degeneration into silly humour at night. I am a major culprit and I apologise to anyone I may have offended. I'll control myself! Lesson to all, alcohol and forums do not mix!! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 14Jun 04, 2008 11:03 am joles Lesson to all, alcohol and forums do not mix!! Jo Yes they do.....I do it every night!!!! By that I mean. if it goes off track it can be split at that point and moved into coffee break (with new title) while the beginning of the thread (before the silliness begins) remains where it was? I'm not really a computer person so I don't know if this even makes sense, but just a thought. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 16Jun 04, 2008 11:07 am Good point, think we should split Jo’s first take on the “Why this forum works!”
Leave the good stuff up, and put the rest into the coffee break! What do you think! Jo I think that would work well, as most of the silly stuff wouldn't happen if it wern't for the serious threads. (if you know what I mean) Paula Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 19Jun 04, 2008 11:16 am vanderlay As Paula said - sometimes things just "evolve" on their own accord. Thanks V, well said. joles This may be a silly thought... but is there any way to split a thread? I'm not really a computer person so I don't know if this even makes sense, but just a thought. Jo Jo, in short, yes we can split threads, but we shouldn't have to do this on a regular basis, just because "the silliness begins". As V has mentioned earlier, vanderlay if we ALL just make a little more effort not to wander too far, and to try and keep the fun to the "coffee break", everyone is happy. So lets try to keep the "silliness" (within reason) to the Coffee Breeak Forum i think? Thanks also Duminda, i appreciate your honesty. Wonderland, i believe that discussing and comparing your own similar experience is fine, as long as it does not take over the thread. Re: Lets stay on topic - Please 20Jun 04, 2008 11:19 am I agree Paula,
As you said before, it just evolves and it's a lot of fun, but it won't happen if it has nothing to evolve from. It's like any conversation, the beginning isn't necessarily where you end up. But at the same time it's not fair to people who are looking for info to have to trawl through it. This way, there would be a clear choice for people. Fair way for everybody me thinks.
