Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 24, 2014 12:54 am Hi This is an example (see URL below) of one of the affected metal door frames in our block of units. The metal has rusted right through in some sections. What is the best way to treat this other than doing a proper job and replacing the frames. After removing the loose rust should I treat with rust converter (whats the best stuff?) Then use red lead paint ? and then prime ? Then use builders bog? any suggestions welcome thx https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7GvyO ... sp=sharing Re: Treating Rusted Door Frames 3Aug 25, 2014 12:30 am That's too far gone for any sort of remedial work. The corrosion (rust) is active, you would have to needle-gun/grind it all out before you used a Chromic acid based product but it would re-appear before too long. Rip it out and start again. Re: Treating Rusted Door Frames 4Aug 25, 2014 4:35 am Ideally you would grind ALL the loose piecies of rust out, which in your case you would end up with an incomplete frame. Then you would apply a rust converter agent to it to neutralize the remaining rust, and paint over it. I'd probably hit it with a wire brush (on the end of a drill/dremel/grinder) and remove all the paint and rust first , then post another picture for proper evaluation. If there is rust perforation (rust through) then it's gone but if not you can restore it. If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8324 For your reference Performance Labels: Window assemblies in housing, except timber windows, must be labelled so the label can be seen when it is in situ.
