Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Vandalism on Building Site - Experiences and what to do? 21Aug 31, 2014 11:15 am Security fences are mostly for insurance purposes despite the fact everyone will tell you it is to keep the thieves and vandals out. Any number of builders who have been to court when a thief has injured themselves on a building site will tell you it is so that they have been seen to take all reasonable precautions to secure a dwelling under construction. There have been numerous cases over the years where a builder has failed to do this and has been deemed to be negligent in some way in the courts eyes and a " member of the public " has hurt themselves. No matter that they have been there to either vandalise the place or rip out all the fittings and sell them down at the local pub to support their drug habits. If the place gets robbed and the builder doesn't have the security fence in place he would probably struggle to get his insurance claim passed. My other halfs brother in law is a solicitor who counts among his customers a large national pool company as well as more than a few local builders and has seen this a few times. I think it depends on the kids as much as their background and how they were brought up. Sad to see and I hope it is all easily fixed for you. I've never understood indiscriminate destruction or damage to someone else's property. I am bit old fashioned and believe in compulsory national service but also with alternative choice of community service for those who do not want to do military.. I am sure that would fix their perspective on life whilst learning something useful in addition to getting up at 5AM and making their own beds learning self discipline and having the privilege of computer games once a week. Re: Vandalism on Building Site - Experiences and what to do? 28Sep 05, 2014 11:10 pm Yeah, I can't say I disagree with you guys. I know if I did something stupid when I was a kid either my old man , uncle or cousin would give me a kick up the backside that I wouldn't forget in a hurry, that's for sure. Making people responsible for their actions is sadly lacking these days. Thankfully, there hasn't been a repeat since, and the house is not far off completion. Hope your repairs can be actioned swiftly. Re: Vandalism on Building Site - Experiences and what to do? 30Sep 07, 2014 9:25 pm I feel your pain. Happened to us on the eve of handover. Three kids broke in and spray painted and smashed up the joint a bit. We lost almost a week getting the house back up to scratch. Just yuck and the worst feeling ever.
