Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 30, 2014 8:19 pm I have just had a fence replaced, and the fencer seems to have done a reasonable job except for the front part of the fence, where the palings have been set at 90 degrees to the sloping ground, rather than vertical and parallel with the posts (presumably so that he didn't have to cut the bottom of the palings).
It looks terrible. What should I do? Withhold payment until it is done to my liking? I only inspected the fence a few hours ago, and obviously first port of call is to discuss it with the fencer, which I will do tomorrow. He's also done 3 low panels after the rake, instead of 2 low panels as per specification on the quote... while a bit annoying it doesn't seem to be detrimental so I can let that one slide. Advice on how to deal with the fencer over the non-vertical palings appreciated... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The spirit level and the front green fence post are both vertical. (And the house and front fence will be knocked down and rebuilt in the near future.) Re: Fence replaced, palings not vertical 2Jul 30, 2014 8:35 pm is it the entire fence or just the front cut down section, either way its crap and should be fixed. work out what % of the fence is ok and pay them slightly less than that, with the balance when the rest is fixed. Re: Fence replaced, palings not vertical 4Jul 30, 2014 10:30 pm Thanks for the comments. It's the first 3 panels, about 7 meters... all low panels before it rises to full height. I really can't understand why anyone would do something like that. Re: Fence replaced, palings not vertical 5Jul 31, 2014 11:41 am Geez it's worse than I thought. My property is being rented so I didn't want to go into backyard until I had OK'ed it with the tenant, so I couldn't see this yesterday. There's a rear section behind a garage I could not see before, and it's pretty bad. The posts only have a tiny bit at the top to hold them, and are only half-notched in. It looks especially bad from my side because I have the posts.... I am so frustrated.
