Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 25, 2014 6:00 am Hi all, Is it common practice these days to use compressed fibre cement sheet flooring in the shower these days?(bearer and joists) As the bathroom i we have now is on yellow tongue partical board sheets and collapsed after 15-20 years of leaking. I don't want too repeat that mistake, So have been looking into some products like scyon flooring from james hardie i think. Is this type of flooring (scyon sheet) normally laid in a platform method, the same as structafloor, Or as a fitted floor after the bottom plates and wall framing has been erected ? Ty wobbly Design from top down to ground , build from ground up Re: Wet area flooring ? 2Jul 25, 2014 9:25 am Either or depending on how you want to do it. I think most guys still build the sub-floor then lay all the flooring sheets down then build the stud frames on top of that. Are you setting down your floor in the bathroom 40-50mm to allow for a sand/cement bed and tiles? Stewie Re: Wet area flooring ? 3Jul 26, 2014 1:59 pm Ty Stewie D. I have set down all the wet areas approx 210mm on the lower deck, will be using scyon wet area flooring in the bathroom only and structafloor for the laundry and toilet. With tiles of course. The scyon sheeting is able to be tiled straight onto it with any need of a motar bed. But i still may require some fall , so will need to look into it. At least 20mm for average sized bathrooms. Another reason why we used to step down the joists in those areas ( for new builds - renos are a bit harder ) and whether you are doing a direct stick ( as you describe ) or a sand/cement bed. That all depends too on what your floor covering is outside those rooms. You don't want to end up with toe-cracker height differences between floor surfaces.
