Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 24, 2014 1:59 pm So I think I have decided when the kids a little older a theater room will get used a lot with DH and I escaping and also sleep overs. I have added one to our plan but am wondering if a specific size is best. Most seem to be around 4-5m x 3-4 m. I am very open to what size I can have mine and at the moment I have it at 8.75m long and 3.87wide. Is that to big? I can make it longer still and maybe eve a little wider but would rather not but thought this was prob big enough. Would it cover 3 levels plus room for xbox etc? TIA Re: Another theater questions sorry 2Jul 24, 2014 11:25 pm I would make it wider so you can get a bigger screen From my brief research, THX home theater recommendations for projectors recommend sitting 4-5m from the screen. Prob no issue sitting at 8m, but from their recommendation it was "too far". There is an excel file on this site where you can input what type of screen size you plan to have and it recommends where you should be sitting at. http://carltonbale.com/home-theater/hom ... alculator/ Re: Another theater questions sorry 3Jul 25, 2014 12:20 am Lena I would definitely push for wider to take advantage of the nice sized space. I would also do as worktime suggests and key into a room calculator. When I did mine I used carltonbale as well as one for acoustics as you want to make sure you dont have a room that has certain dimensions. refer to http://www.tmlaboratories.com/RoomDimen ... lator.html With a room that size I would think about a false wall and an acoustically transparent screen. Three levels is doable but you will need to consider overall ceiling height as you may have the back row (3rd row) more than 4 course high. Check out avs forums in the home builds for cinemas that are similar dimensions for ideas. Have you thought What colours you'll make yours? We're painting ours red and black, with red carpet, our window will be a 500mm from ceiling,500mm high by 2100mm long, with black plantation shutters and two cavity sliding doors, painted black on the cinema side, with fairy lights in ceiling and a big opening 2 metres wide by 1.2 metre high,we've put a lot of ideas into this room. I found the manufacter that makes and supplies the leather lounges for Home cinemas, they are in Chippinging Norton and sell direct to the public at a fraction of the price. So exciting! Good luck with your cinema room,I can see ours will be the hub of the house. Julie Re: Another theater questions sorry 6Jul 28, 2014 12:09 pm jul33m1 two cavity sliding doors Personally I'd be reconsidering the cavity doors, and replacing them with heavy entrance doors, as cavity doors will leak 'truckloads' of sound out in to the rest of your house. Not a problem if you or hubby are watching something that you like, but if your kids want to crank something up, whilst you're doing something else in the house, not all that much fun. Re: Another theater questions sorry 8Jul 28, 2014 6:11 pm bratt brings a very good point to the table, as I posted above, you need to also look at the room dimensions. Think about spending the extra for a double glazed window as well. Rather than double doors go a wider single door as you want minimal sound escaping through the door jamb. I originally was going the soundproof door route until I found out the price of those doors. Now I will be installing some sort of seal kit to ensure a tight seal around the jamb and door. Re: Another theater questions sorry 9Jul 28, 2014 7:59 pm Thanks bpratt and AussieMark, I told my husband and he's going to call our builder and have it changed to a solid door, this forums great for picking up things you forget,we've already included double glazed windows and sound proofing, but completely forgot about the doors. Can't wait to watch our first movie! Thanks again Julie Wow that is shocking, how did it go informing the other builder? 5 10178 Hi, Apologies - I know there is plenty out there on this but struggling to put together the puzzle.
