Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 19, 2014 7:28 pm Hi, I'm wondering what the minimum length I can make eaves. We are extending onto a Queenslander deck and are keen to keep as much view of the sky as possible. My builder has just begun extending the current roof line to give us 450mm eaves (only extended the rafters), but I can now that this unfortunately cuts out more of the skyline than I would like. I'd be keen to pull the eaves back to 300mm or maybe less(?200), but don't want to compromise the weather proofing of the house. Its a double story wall, south facing. It has great views so we will have three quarter windows upward from about knee high (energy efficient glazing included). I thought the eaves would be a good idea because they'd give us protection from the weather which comes from the south. We are however very well protected by a hill around the back of us so don't get a lot of southerly wind. I know that we won't need the eaves to shade us from the sun, and they will probably also make the room marginally darker. Downstairs we will be creating an entertainment room with relatively small windows. The house is weatherboard, but we will be replacing the existing wooden boards with a ?cement look alike (for fire reasons and because the height of the wall will make it difficult for us to paint and we want it to be as low maintenance as possible). What I'm wondering is how small can I make them so they still give adequate protection against the elements. Any input would be appreciated as the builder will be putting on the new tin and guttering on Monday. Many thanks, My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW. Under campbelltown council.
