Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 10, 2014 4:30 pm Hi all, I've requested for soundscreen to the 3 rooms and the builder's note says that with the insulation it may restrict future installation of cabling within internal walls. I'm thinking I might need to add-on additional data network points, post-handover and one of these will need to be in a soundscreened bedroom. Alternatively, I could have all the soundscreened rooms network cabled during the build. Notwithstanding this builder's note being reasonable, has anyone installed cabling through soundscreened walls, post-handover and what were the issues...higher cost? Thanks. Re: Cabling into soundscreened bedrooms? 3Jul 10, 2014 11:31 pm I can't tell you if it's difficult or not yet as we haven't started building but we have spec'd soundscreen around the HT and some bedrooms and our tender does have a note on it to say that we acknowledge that cabling may be difficult to do after completion in those walls now. Been there done that with a mate of mine a few times who does security alarm installations on the side. Trying to run cables through walls with any from of blanket insulation is hard to do. Not only is there the insulation there is also the noggin(s) halfway up the wall. You are better off running conduit in the wall with draw strings so you can pull them through later even if it is just up through the top plate. Have a read through the Home Theatre & Automation section. viewforum.php?f=34 There are few similar threads. Also be aware that if you want to pull HDMI cables through, the plugs won't fit down a standard 20mm conduit - you have to go up to the next 32mm size. Stewie Re: Cabling into soundscreened bedrooms? 5Jul 11, 2014 3:20 pm Matt1 - we're possibly at the same stage...the note was in my tender too. Stewie - appreciate the first-person feedback. And yes, those noggins is a concern. With have to re-work my network plan. My builder is not flexible with respect to my arranged tradie to do work during the build and their network cabling does not work for me, so post-handover will be required but the soundscreened room needs to be right first time. Thanks. Re: Cabling into soundscreened bedrooms? 6Jul 11, 2014 4:13 pm Then ask the builder or builders sparky how much just to run a couple of conduits up to the top plate like I said. All the cables etc can be run post-build as long as those conduits are in place. Stewie Re: Cabling into soundscreened bedrooms? 7Jul 11, 2014 7:14 pm I did most of my cabling through the builder but did do some conduits (32mm) for things like HDMI to I didn't have to go with the 24ct gold plated cable through the builder!
