Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 08, 2014 10:26 pm Just hoping to get some people's insights to which front door size would be better. I love the 1200mm size wide doors, but that mean I would have NO side glass strip panel which can let light through. Also I am afraid that for narrow lot building, it would look weird with a wide door. Should I better off with 1200mm door or 920mm+300mm window design? We are going to get Low E glass for the door, so still get plenty of light without the heat gain/loss of normal glass. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. But with obscure glass only allowing light through. Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 5Jul 09, 2014 2:48 am Well my lot is only a meter wider and for my entrance I have a 1400mm wide pivot door with a 1m side window. Depends on the facade I guess....... Feng Shui suggests that the door to the house should be equal proportions to the house. I would show but I dont know how to save as a pic on the mac.... Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 6Jul 09, 2014 11:22 am AM - 1) drag the pic to the desktop if it is on a webpage 2) hover the mouse over the pic then right click and select " Save image to the Desktop" 3) take a screenshot if you can't do any of the above - command+shift+4 then left click and drag the mouse over the selected pic and release. Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 8Jul 09, 2014 11:33 am Its doesnt mention but says all general terms like, a big house should not have a small door. I wanted a pivot door but also wanted space to bring wide things through the front door. Originally we were going to have double doors but I thought that you generally do not open both, so I went pivot. Wide Pivots are crazy expensive....... Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 9Jul 09, 2014 12:00 pm We only have a 12.5m frontage and we have gone for a 1200mm door! We do have a portico as well but even if we didnt I would love it and dont think it looks wierd at all. Pictures on my thread if you want to have a look Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 10Jul 09, 2014 12:11 pm To be honest if you have a garage door that will be around 6m for a double. The 300mm diff between the min and max door sizes will not be noticed. I would go the larger door, especially since its a double storey Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 11Jul 09, 2014 1:11 pm lovepub any idea what proportion should the ENTRY door be compare to the whole house width? Very simple. whatever YOU like. People give too much creedence to this feng shui dribble. build what suits you. Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 12Jul 09, 2014 3:13 pm Qebtel, thanks for being understanding if other cultures. Agree that one should build as they please, but no need to dis others information just because you are not interested. Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 13Jul 09, 2014 8:27 pm For a big house I personally would go bigger door as it would look and feel more grand.... I only have a 12.5 frontage and have gone with the widest door I could get for my houseplan which is 1020 and glad I did! Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! I just found out today from my draftsman that there is a new regulation for SMALL LOT CODE in Queensland/Brisbane. Not certain what it is yet, but effective from July 1st that the setback from the boundary (left and right) are 1 metre now. PS: not exactly sure, but will google it up and hopefully this may be useful information for other new house builders. If this is the case, I think I am going to have wide door plus wider entrance hallway... Re: Front door size for 14m narrow lot 15Jul 10, 2014 3:08 am I would not be too concerned about it as a 1m set back will mean habitable rooms. The garage side would be a boundary wall and the house would step in behind that. My block is 15m wide and I have 1.5m setback and 1m where the walls have no windows. Just look at plans that are meant for 14m blocks. Thanks again for this information. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 5990 Current door width is approx 2700, looking to have double doors fitted 820-820. What size does the frame need to be before door jamb? Thanks 0 2328 dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 6196 |
