Has anyone got telstra t box? Is it any good?
We can't decide whether to get full blown foxtel on our velocity network or maybe tbox would be enough for us. All the different options telstra offer over the phone confuse the heck out of me!

We have regular Foxtel now because the stupid rental place we live in the next suburb over has no free to air signal at all. So we connected Foxtel, just so we had some sort of TV option at night. We have the Premium package and movies, which is good - but I wonder if I'll need it all once the free to air stuff becomes available again. There's so many repeats and junk on there it's not funny. But if you have kids, the childrens channels are quite good. I must admit, like you - my head spins with the different package options and I wind up leaving it for another day. Does the T-box only have 8 or so channels? I'm happy with it (would be happier if they had Game of Thrones on!!) It has the free to air channels and the some other ones - around 31 channels altogether. You can record and pause and rewind and fast forward etc. which is great for not missing your fav shows. Although channels like 7 usually run late so if you don't set up your t-box to record the next programme you are likely to miss the end of the one you wanted to see. You can rent movies through the t-box as well. They have the latest releases and they usually cost around $5.99 to download, this is charged to your telstra account. I have no interest in paying foxtels exhorbitant rates... the t-box works just fine for me. Yes, missing the latest Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead as they air in the US is going to make me cry a bit! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Telstra t box? 6Jul 01, 2014 11:15 pm We've got the T-Box too and it's pretty good for what it does. Dual tuners so you can record two channels at the same time. You cannot watch a third though. For that you have to switch the TV back to just TV mode and not through the T-Box Quote: Although channels like 7 usually run late so if you don't set up your t-box to record the next programme you are likely to miss the end of the one you wanted to see. Burnsfirstime, you can set up a buffer time of 20 mins after your recorded program ends which takes care of the overrun problem. Edit: Here's the blurb I downloaded to fix this problem... Missing the end of your favourite shows? Ever found it irritating that your recording suddenly stops before a program's finished? This sometimes happens when TV networks don't quite follow their advertised schedules. Now you can use the 'post-record buffer' function to set an additional post-record time to the end of all scheduled recordings. That means you'll get to enjoy the full show on your T-Box, if a program runs over time. Here's how to set up the post-record buffer: 1 From the Home Menu, choose 'Settings' 2 Use the Right arrow key to move you to 'Recording Settings' 3 Edit the Change Post-record time and select the number of minutes you wish Recordings to 'over- run' after the scheduled time. We recommend 15 or 20 minutes, as free-to-air scheduling can vary. All done? Now you've applied an 'over-run' setting to all your future recordings Quote: A random chick in the Telstra shop told me that tbox can only record programs from free to air, and not from whatever foxtel channels it is also providing, is this correct? EmyN, that is correct as far as I know. There are also metered channels ( broadcast via your internet connection which count towards your data usage ) - AFL and NRL which cover all the recent games up to a month previously so if your game isn't match of the day you can still view it a couple of days later. Stewie Re: Telstra t box? 7Jul 02, 2014 11:30 am Thanks everyone for your advice. We've decided that not being able to record the Foxtel channels through tbox is a deal breaker for us. Because there's so much junk on foxtel the odds of having something you want to watch on when you get to sit down is very low! And being mum to a baby and toddler makes it even harder haha. So to us the tbox's foxtel channels are practically useless. So we're just going to get the basic foxtel package separately. Thanks for all the replies! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Telstra t box? 8Jul 02, 2014 11:46 am We have velocity - and had the choice. While the TBox had some useful things we went for Foxtel package. I love the sport and Mrs SM the movies etc etc. TBox just didn't seem to make it. We get net, Fox, telephone, mobile, FTA with velocity - and it is very good. Also - no sat dish - so Fox can record FTA.. Re: Telstra t box? 10Jul 02, 2014 3:48 pm Stewie D SM, what does that cost you for the average month if you don't mind me asking and what data usage for your internet does that include ? Stewie If you go onto the Telstra site you can work it all out. Take off the TBox, add on things - and choose the gigs you want for the net. It often depends on where you live and what you want. We took the middle deal. But if you want millions of gigs then you can go higher. NB: we were told by the Telstra shop that discounts didn't apply (for getting it all - eg Fox as well) - but they do - and we got one. When we worked it all out - what we were getting in the old house - and what we would get - it was cheaper - ie for landline, internet, foxtel, etc - and we couldn't tape 10, 9 & 7 as we had a dish. Now we can do this on Fox. You can also get a cheap extra room deal if you don't want to try a splitter ... It's not a lot cheaper - but what you get is better imo. You have to be fair though - put down ALL the costs. We pay nothing for landline phone calls - to landlines or standard mobiles. Our mobile also gets free calls home. While we still pay for everything - we get more gigs than we ever did - a discount for bundling, foxtel, internet, land line, FTA, etc. And - its all very fast. I'm told it is what the NBN will be. All fibre-optic. Re: Telstra t box? 11Jul 30, 2014 1:53 pm It is a great thing that I stumbled upon this forum. I have been stranded in a similar dilemma ever since we moved to our new place. I guess we have to really sit down and think what we truly need for our family. Saint Mike, you provided the most comprehensive options and that is just what we need. We got to unpack all of these moving boxes and sit down to think whether we need more gigs or whether variety of channels would be preferred.
