Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 28, 2008 11:18 pm Hi everyone,
This is my first post, I have been looking through the forums for a while now, and getting some great ideas! I'm not sure where I should post this (wish it was the Building a New House board, but maybe next house!!), we are just starting to renovate our first home and have recently pulled out our very ugly front garden, removed our arched double garage roller doors and replaced with the Jasper coloured garage door. My husband is busy rendering the house, and we can't decide on colours!!!! We had to choose quickly with the garage door as we bought a new car and it needed to be garaged of course!!! So any ideas or pics would be MOST appreciated. Here are some photos: House when we bought it: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ House as of last week: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our pool area (no idea on colour names, and we can easily change this anyway): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I quite like this, but this is the only photo I can find and not sure on roof colour etc. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thank you in advance!! We have not thought too much about windows, doors etc or the front garden area yet, though we will probably fence the front yard in with a timber/rendered fence. Open to all suggestions!!!! Cheers, Brooke Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 2May 29, 2008 6:38 am The green spouting has to go!
That can be repainted easy enough and I would stick to a colourbond colour that was not quite the same shade as the door. You can check those colours at a plumbing supplies or maybe a decent paint shop. Buy the sample pots and test them out. Builders are people too.... Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 3May 29, 2008 8:29 am Oh yes absolutely!!!! We are also repainting the roof, the whole lot, I hate the Christmas colours!!
The question is, what colours?? I am too indecisive Thanks! Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 6May 29, 2008 9:31 am Welcome to the forum !
Congratulations on posting photos - we love them, and they are a great help when asking these kind of questions!! Love your garage door colour. I would do the spouts the same or close to it. I dont know the names of any colours so Im no help there. Did you do the pool area yourself?? Paula Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 7May 29, 2008 9:59 am Thanks Paula, I belong to other forums so the posting of photos was the easy part
Yes we put the pool in and put a new deck and pergola area a couple of years ago, was the first thing we did. My husband is good at doing all handyman type things, lucky for me. The pool and outdoor area is the only modern part of our house! I was thinking the same thing with the spouts, but unsure whether the roof is better in a similarly dark colour, or a lighter colour? My problem is, there is too much choice these days!!!! How do you find time for other forums??? I'd go a dark slate colour for the roof. I'm no expert though. I usually copy from a photo!! Love your pool area. You've done a great job. We're a great bunch of sitcky beaks and love pics. How long have you had the house? You've done so much already!!! I cant wait to see it as it comes together..... Welcome aboard!! Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 16May 30, 2008 7:10 pm I’m going to stick with the Jasper of your garage doors.
So heres my suggestions. Externals Roof – Jasper - If resprayed Gutters – Jasper Fascia – Jasper Eaves – Depends which colour you pick…..do ½ strength Downpipes – Whichever wall colour you choose for the walls Masonry Walls – Render – 1) Dulux “Pale Parchment” 2) Dulux “Warm Neutral” Windows – If painting the windows - Jasper Door – Jasper – full gloss I have given you 2 colours to choose from for the render paintwork. One being darker than the other, get some sample pots and see which one you like best. Alternative, if you are wanting a BIG contrast in colours for the render…..try Dulux “Harlem” Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 17May 31, 2008 2:50 pm **Phoenix** Welcome to the forum Brooke, what a lovely avatar pic too!!! I cant wait to see it as it comes together..... Welcome aboard!! Thanks Nicola, we have had the house nearly 4 years, and put the pool in end 2005 (which was a hot summer, since then, not so much!). That's all we have really done, and just doing the exterior and landscaping now, then moving on to the interior! So much to do, so many questions to be asked! hehe Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 18May 31, 2008 2:53 pm Michelle I’m going to stick with the Jasper of your garage doors. We had a drive around with the camera today and took some pics, I'm not sure if doing the roof as well as the gutters all Jasper is too much Jasper (I prefer it in the colorbond rather than the tiles, bummer!). Do you think a darker roof would look odd? Thanks again, will get some paint samples and see what comes of it! Re: Beginning of the end - Renovating - HELP please!!!!! 19May 31, 2008 3:01 pm No, it will give balance to your colour scheme and make your wall colour stand out.
