Because that wall (the wall on the left hand side of the porch) also happen to carry load from the first floor so it is load bearing wall, cutting into it now supposedly would compromise the structural integrity ..... It is a solid stud wall (3 studs nailed together).
you said yourself above soemwhere that they would have to put thicker studs in if they were going to pull it apart. That suggests there is some room to go wider. You cant tell me that whole wall left of the door is solid wood all the way? Would be interesting to see a pic of it.
That's what I was trying to understand. How can that whole wall be load bearing. So there are 3 studs nailed together… put the light switch on the other side of them… what's that …. 10cms away from where it was meant to go??
I thought about that - that was the other option the builder gave me. But that would mean the hallway light switch would be in the Study which would be confusing.
