Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 31, 2014 10:15 pm Hi Guys, We finished our build with Clarendon homes and have moved in for about a year now. We did a knock down and rebuild on the parcel of land we have lived on for years. Since moving in we have been sharing our house with brown crickets which are extremely annoying (especially when you step on them barefoot). They are literally found everywhere - upstairs, downstairs, bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways, living room... you name it! Now I'm not talking about a wild infestation but lets just say I see about 5-10 a week, more during summer. Its peculiar because the old house we were in prior to rebuilding never had this problem. I have tried everything from covering floor grates to installing doors seals to no avail. I can't really think of any other way these little critters are making their way into the house. We did pay for a pest control guy to have a look and they could only suggest a chemical treatment which was not permanent, in our case only effective for 2 months. Funny thing was I have spoken to a friend who has also just moved into a newly build house about a kilometre away and they've said they have the same issue with crickets also. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this issue and has been able to stop them from getting into the house. Where do they even come in from? And what did you do? Any help would be great! Thanks! Re: Crickets inside the house!!! HELP! 3Jun 01, 2014 1:22 pm Like grasshoppers they are omnivores meaning they will eat almost anything but they seem to like plant and rotting plant material best. I have a friend who breeds them for his lizard collection and he gives them a wide variety of plant species mostly lettuce, spinach and grasses. You need to look at what they are eating and then remove that from outside your home if possible. Have you planted landscaping around your new house - lots of mulch maybe ? That might be the source of both their food and shelter. Thanks for all that you do! 7 6585 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6896 |
