Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 29, 2014 9:23 am Hi Guys, We just finished laundry renovation but we noticed the renovator didn't seal the tile groute – which might cause moisture, mold and mildew problems. When asked him to seal it he simply said "we don't do it – its upto owner to do that – asked us to buy some sealer from Bunnings and do our self. His quote says : * Supply & tile laundry floor straight pattern * Supply & tile laundry skirting Wondering if this is common that they don't seal the tile groute? If not, what can I do in this case? PS : we are very unhappy with all the job he has done. Thanks Anna Renovator didn't seal the tile groute - is it ok? 2May 29, 2014 11:07 am That's not uncommon. If it's a small area it's easy enough to do yourself. We had a huge amount of tiled areas so we ended up getting a guy from Groutpro out to do it for us and were really happy with the result (and it's guaranteed as well). Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Renovator didn't seal the tile groute - is it ok? 3May 29, 2014 3:37 pm I reckon a bushy would do it with a garden sprayer. like 5ltr jobbie from bunnings , start at the top and soak the tile wall and work down. Be quick and get all the surrounding walls and surfaces just as soaked. Any runoff at the floor level tiles squeeggie it out evenly across floor tiles. Do it, say when all tiles are dry , no water in there for 24 - 36 hrs. where a good breathing mask open windows and don't smoke, or no naked flames. then let it dry a good 24 hrs and then use it. not a pro just , i am just a bushy. ty wobbly Design from top down to ground , build from ground up Re: Renovator didn't seal the tile groute - is it ok? 5May 30, 2014 12:57 pm wobbly1 I reckon a bushy would do it with a garden sprayer. like 5ltr jobbie from bunnings , start at the top and soak the tile wall and work down. I used a very soft toothbrush along the grout lines. Instructions said wait 5-10 minutes then take off excess with a sponge. I was delayed with the bathroom tile (another tradie came and we got talking and so I got back to the job in 15- and I now have some white lines I can't get rid of. Luckily it's white on white tile so you only see it where the water doesn't cling. So you DON"T seal the whole tile or you will get white marks all over the tile surface! Yes, I had the ceiling fans on, all windows open, and a mask to do the job. You may still have a case, but your next step is to speak to a lawyer. 3 1607 I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in.
