It was supposed to go above the bed - would have fit nicley. Now I can put this hall table in another room and get a longer one for this spot. So that means have the focus thing on the side?? Paula Re: My house - new home for hall table 287Jul 16, 2008 6:12 pm It's called the "Rule of Thirds".....don't see why it can't be applied to decorology....

From my prospective though I would love it if my DH took a bit more interest in things like this!! Paula, can I ask why the art work didn't go above your bed? I think I'd be too worried that it would knock me out during the night given the weight Happy at Home Re: My house - new home for hall table 289Jul 16, 2008 7:19 pm to_do_list Stormy's probably the expert on this..... Not an expert, but composition in a photograph is paramount to the whole 'feel' of an image, same as a space in a house! Whenever I have decorated rooms/tables/blank walls etc, balance is an important factor, both height wise and in width. As well as the rule of thirds, I often group 3 similar things together and it always seems to work. (Although my house is a complete decor disaster at the moment with boxes everywhere!) Love the artwork Paula, just stunning! If it were me, I'd be looking at a shiney deep red metallic bowl or rounded/squashed vase to add colour...or 3 similar, yet slightly different...like these, but in red! Shouldn’t think it will be too long before he puts a ban on her coming here. Sorry, I beg to differ.....this photo for instance (suggest people try to see this photo in one frame rather than scrolling if you can....your eye starts at the bottom, moves across the photo, and follows the branches down, across and around. One of the most difficult thinks to do is to make the the viewer look at all parts of the photo...you're very modest.....sorry way off topic. If you divide the photo left to right – then the twiggy things and the vase with lilies is out of balance with the other side of the table.....which I think Michelle mentioned. Another tip I read was about ratios – if you are going to add three things to a table – don’t just whack one in the middle and one on each end. Try adding one to each end and then the third one in between the middle of the table and one of the objects on one end. Apparently it’s visually appealing….. What you have mentioned here are two basic principles of any design - symmetry/balance and the rule of thirds. [sneakersss] Re: My house - new home for hall table 295Jul 16, 2008 8:10 pm Yes Mish is constantly pointing that one out..... .....it's more a case of what color goes with what....but that's OK I know what I like and what I don't but only when I see it in real life.....can't visualise color schemes.
