Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 21May 09, 2014 3:15 pm I've had a 3 way bathroom without a door and it worked fine. Our new build has exactly the same bathroom as yours and we're not putting a door on it, only one to the toilet and shower/bath, have fun working it out. Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 22May 09, 2014 7:59 pm qebtel Im amazed you cant work this out yourself. Its essentially dependent on your own preferences. Well, yes, I have worked this out myself. You see, its the wife that hasn't worked it out. You're obviously not married, or still in the honeymoon phase, disagreements are healthy in good relationships, it's why we are still married after more than 40 years. I'm guessing you voted for letting her have her way even though she's wrong... My wife will have the biggest laugh when she eventually finds out about this poll. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 23May 09, 2014 8:05 pm building-expert At your age you should already know your wife is always right or you may end up sleeping in the dog house. How true; words of wisdom there... I put the last option in the poll thinking it would attract votes because of this. Not such a big response... Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 24May 09, 2014 8:07 pm Happy wife = happy life. The end. I say no door anyway. If you want that level of privacy get rid of it being a 3 way bathroom. Have one bigger bathroom and a separate WC if that floats your boat. A 3 way bathroom with 3 doors just seems like a waste of space. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 25May 09, 2014 8:44 pm Put a door in. It's nice to have the option of privacy if needed. Leave it open if you like. For our master Ensuite we had it open and then went cavity slider and then decided as we have the room a proper door would be nice. Ciao Mark Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 26May 09, 2014 10:00 pm @seano. Agreed, however, being a RENO we are constrained by existing dimensions and plumbing so can't move the toilet unfortunately. Its the same reason we can't put a sink/vanity in the bathing area for privacy as suggested by other people. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 27May 10, 2014 1:52 am I'd put the door on the hallway and remove the one to the wet area. Sorry can't vote on the phone apparently. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 28May 10, 2014 7:34 am I voted for a door too - my first thought too was to move a sink into the bath area and perhaps then not have a door. Ahh, did not realise it is a reno, did not read that stated anywhere, nor did others probably realise the plumbing must stay as is. I still can't really think of ever noticing a 3 way bathroom with a door there. I assume a cavity slider is also out of the question seeing as it's not a new build. At least with a cavity the door is tucked out of the way and barely noticeable, whereas a swinging door isn't, and I personally think it'd be left open 99% of the time. Ultimately, it's a personal choice. I'd go with no door but make sure the doorway that is there is a standard size then you can always hang a door later if you decide you want to. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 30May 10, 2014 9:12 am Go with the wife - either would be ok - imo - but why argue. Allow a few own goals - might be useful down the track ... Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 31May 10, 2014 10:04 am You made a pretty convincing point with the visual image of your hairy back side so I vote door! But as has been said before use the cavity slider as opposed to a swinging door. Researching a build in South Australia from Sydney. Re: Bathroom Reno - Disagreement with Wife - Please VOTE 32May 10, 2014 10:24 am Maybe your wife doesn't think privacy would be an issue for anyone else because it wouldn't be a problem for her to be doing her hair, her makeup, etc, where people can walk past at any moment. Have you asked your wife how she'd feel if you were staying at someone else's house and their bathroom was set up this way? Or how she'd feel if she walked past the open vanity and someone was squeezing their pimples, cleaning out their ears, shaving the legs or other bits (not everyone shaves in the shower), dressing a wound, changing a colostomy bag or any one of the million other possible things someone might do at a vanity/mirror? I voted for a door as I like the option of doing private things in private. ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! If it is never shut so be it. A compromise is a cavity slider. She didn't want a door - and her solution to the dilemma is to not only put in the door she didn't want, but she's now added a wall as well! LOL.
