Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: builders and subbies 9May 24, 2008 9:48 am up to 5 metres what worries me is when the concrete trucks start arriving then the timber ,bricks etc as they all come on larger trucks. if you are not home you cant prove anything without photograhic evidence if they crack your driveway Re: builders and subbies 10May 24, 2008 11:00 am Just hammer some star pickets into the ground to prevent them using your property as a thoroughfare, then tie some hazard tape over and between the pickets to make it quite visble. Or you could hang some chain between them across the driveway. If the area is completely concreted (ie you can't hammer down star pickets anywhere), perhaps you should consider hiring one or two of those portable barriers, the type type that you see on roadworks or festivals that are injection moulded plastic and get filled with water to make them immovable.
It shouldn't be too tough to create some kind of visble barrier that prevents vehicular access to your property. Cheers, Justin. Re: builders and subbies 11May 24, 2008 11:38 am Not sure about where you live, but in NSW we have 2 large garbage bins, I would put those across the drive every morning before they start, if you have them!
If not get creative……use something of theirs!!!!! If you are going to bang star pickets around make sure you buy some star picket covers (can get them at the Big B).....you want to minimise (notice I didn't say avoid) any public liability issues. I'd be talking to the builder directly rather than the site super. Perhaps writing a letter to the building company and hint possible legal action??? Sometimes they won't take you seriously if you only verbally voice your concerns. Re: builders and subbies 14May 24, 2008 12:06 pm thanks for your opinions. the threat of legal action seems to be the most feasible so far. some of the other ideas wouldnt work as we have to get our cars in and out daily Re: builders and subbies 15May 24, 2008 1:09 pm i think the star pickett with a chain across is a great idea. you can padlock the ends of the chain where it is attached to the pole- it can act as a temp gate until construction is completed. Unfortunately, you have to unlock and lock it up each time you enter or leave. The legal action threat is great but um.. have to be careful because they may retaliate eg accidental rock thrown in your window when you are not at home?? by the contractors. Re: builders and subbies 16May 24, 2008 3:54 pm In the same circumstance, I'd leave a car parked at the foot of my driveway when at home, and do the pickets/chain up when I leave.
I know what you mean - I put a wide driveway in at my old place, which was near a school, and had all the soccer mums using it to complete a U-turn - the street was too narrow & you needed a 3-pointer, but if they pick the right spot to turn, most could perform a U-turn by going up my lip & around the first 2-3 foot of the drive, and then continue on their merry way - 4WDs were worse - they'd go up my lip, across part of the front lawn, and off the gutter!. The vehicle weight didn't bother me, it was the speed at which they did it - it left black arc-shaped marks across the front of the driveway. Stopped them by parking the car there with the boot level with the gutter, and putting the big bins there on days I wasn't going to be home by 3pm - although I'd occasionally find one or both bins knocked over, with automotive paint marks on them too.... Re: builders and subbies 18May 24, 2008 7:51 pm thanks to all those who have replied some very good ideas which i will put into practice and see what happens. concreters are coming next week and if i can outsmart them the rest should be a piece of cake i hope. it is amazing how arrogant some people are with no respect for others property. would love to get the addresses of these prats and take my 50 tonne crane around to there place and back it up there driveway spill a bit oil and see what happens. would be worth filming Re: builders and subbies 19May 24, 2008 8:54 pm How about some "Police Line Do Not Cross" tape.....?
You could add to the effect with a chalk outline on the driveway..... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Hi, This is my first post.
