Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 21, 2014 1:55 pm Last week i was called back to the home that I inspected pre handover 2 years ago. Owner said it begun to crack and was worried about slab heave. This is what I found: http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u559/brankom10/DSC_4870_zps3f9a3a7e.jpg Although surface drainage was poor it did not seem to have caused this sort of cracking. Then I found this: http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u559/brankom10/DSC_4862_zpsa26faea5.jpg and http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u559/brankom10/DSC_4869_zps8b807bbb.jpg On the photos above to me there was clear evidence that brick wall grew and pushed out corner and the cause of brick cracking was wall rotation at corner. So why did it happen when brickwork articulation joints that were supposed to prevent this were installed? I knew where to look and quickly found the cause. Mortar left in the joint made it ineffective. http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u559/brankom10/DSC_4863_zpsae15d451.jpg Bricklayer didn't care, builder didn't care, owner didn't care to do pre plaster inspection. Even though I did pre final inspection I could not see it at the time because joints were sealed up , however had I done pre-plaster ("last chance" inspection I would have picked it up. Does anyone care? Many don't. Do I care? Yes. Your call!
