Right now we are renovating our federation weatheroboard house in sydney and have run out of budget to do a really expensive outdoor room, also don't want to overcapitalize. So we want to do an "outdoor room" on the cheap. Right now we have a brick verhanda, with a pergola that has the cheap plastic ceiling which in the height of summer is UNBEARABLE like standing under a magnifying glass. So unbearable we can't open our doors or windows of our house as hot air comes rushing in. We wanted to deck over the brick, i.e. have the decking flush with our dining room which is having bi-fold doors. How much with labour would it cost to deck with hardwood over the brick work. Area around 15m2 For our pergola we wish to take down the polycarbonate and replace with bamboo (house of bamboo) and maybe grow some climbing plants so that one day we just have climbers like grape vines / wisteria over the pergola, although not waterproof ..it is cost effective and I think it gives that European feel. Though any advice / thoughts appreciated?... Thanks and regards Re: quote advice on outdoor living room 2Oct 06, 2006 1:15 pm hi, im finishing up an outdoor area. The pergola is metal with a strip of white milk fibreglass cost me $2500 ...the white(not clear) fibreglass gives light, not as hot as the polycarbonate plastic...also the dirt and dust bulid on top is much more visable on the poly plastic ....
For the floor,i too wanted timber decking, but due to cost, i chose glazed porcelain outdoor tiles @ $27 per metre and tile myself ... The area is next to an old fence..i've got feature wall/fencing from Bunnings. And the uncemented gap btween the fence and cemented area been filled with asorted size pebbles. hope that helps, good luck Re: quote advice on outdoor living room 3Oct 09, 2006 8:26 am Hi there,
thanks for your ideas. Will def look into the white milk fibreglass. Though we really want decking as our flooring inside is wooden floor boards so we want the outside decking flush with our open plan living room. Still no idea of what the cost will be! Hope you enjoy your reno's.
