Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 02, 2009 8:22 pm Does everyone use the same style light switch plates/GPOs for all rooms in the house? I like the Clipsal Modena range but it is rather $$$ to put in the whole house so thought of using the standard classic 2000 series for the "less important" parts of the house like the garage. Will that look funny? Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 2Jul 02, 2009 8:28 pm Well I just have the same boring el cheapo ones thru my whole house but I cant see why you couldn't put special ones in liveing areas, for example, and ordinary ones in other places - I'd just make sure any in an open area were all the same , say hallway and main liveing area which flow into each other or are visible together. Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 3Jul 02, 2009 11:04 pm Hi SYD-YYZ We are going to have the basic in bedrooms, laundry, garage and ensuite and the fancier ones in the rest of the house. I think its a great way to save $$ where you don't need to spend them. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 4Jul 03, 2009 12:31 pm i put up a post earlier about different brands of light switches, clipsal fortunately aren't the only ones on the market! viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19889 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 6Jul 03, 2009 4:48 pm Hi first time post - I have been madly searching for just the right wall switch too. I want to use the same throughout the whole house but that might depend on cost. Maybe use some stock standard ones for areas like garage, closets etc. Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 7Jul 03, 2009 4:54 pm We weren't allowed to select different ones...made us pick all the same. We got clipsal slimline plates which were and extra $10 each (82 plates!). So even the ppt inside the roof for the projector will have a slimline even though nobody will ever see it Built Liberty 42 - Handover 26th Feb 2010 forum thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17243 Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 8Jul 03, 2009 5:01 pm I am going to let the builder put in their basic GPO's and light switches. Then I am going to change them to something nice after handover. Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 10Jul 03, 2009 8:26 pm SYD-YYZ Are the Clipsal Saturn series much nicer than the Modena series? Haven't had time to check it out in the shops yet... Saturn series is a glass-like finish Modena range, looks like big switches on metal I guess it comes down to what you prefer Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 11Jul 03, 2009 8:34 pm The Modena range looks more like what you get in hotels. The Saturn ones don't look that fancy in the pictures but everyone raves about them so might look better in real life... Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 13Jul 04, 2009 9:33 pm We were originally going to get Saturns in the Kitchen/Family/Meals and Bathrooms and then have the slimline to the rest of the house. To us, it wouldn;t have looked odd. Fortunately for us though, our BIL (and sparky) was able to get us great deal so we are now having Saturn lightswitches to the whole house, Saturn GPO's to the kitchen and bathrooms and the remaining power points in the slimlines (no point in having fancy GPO's where you can't see them). I haven't seen the Modena range before...they look a bit commercial looking. Are they more or less expensive than the Saturn range? Less expensive Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 15Jul 05, 2009 10:01 am we have saturn switchs and power points each power point was around $35-$40 each the push button blue led switchs ranged from around $30 for single button and $70 odd for a five button blue led switch my only complaint is the words on the bush buttons dont light up on the ring around the button lights up so at night you cant read what switch is for what Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Same light switch plates for whole house 16Jul 27, 2009 10:30 am My wife wants to get slimline GPO's throughout the whole house, I think it's a waste as many won't been seen at all, ie: the bedroom ones will be behind the side chest of draws. Our sparky will charge us $5 extra for slimline and $10 for the "metal look" Does anyone know if you can simply change both GPO's and light switches from "normal" to "slim" afterwards, my only concern is that the hole at the back or the screw holes will be different. Thanks, Vid We have bitten the bullet and let our sparkys know we want slimline throughout the house, they sent us the variation with an extra fee of $65, not that $65 is much in the scheme of things but when we did our selections we were told we could only choose the standard switches etc and had to talk to the sparkys about upgrading, I wouldn't have thought that this would attract a fee when we weren't able to choose what we really wanted initially!
