Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 09, 2014 3:49 pm Hi there. We have just bought a house in Tasmania built in 1918 and the lower floor (Cellar) has not been renovated. It has lovely original stone work but the floor is a fairly rudimentary concrete slab. I would love to get the polished concrete look but don't know much about it. Does anyone know how likely it is that this is will look good if done in a retrofit way, and is it possible to add retrofit underfloor heating? Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. Re: retrofit polished concrete flooring 2Apr 12, 2014 2:55 pm If it is only an ordinary quality slab, then polishing it won't miraculously make it look a whole lot better , just a crappy slab with a polished surface. The cables for underfloor heating are placed on a floor grid before the concrete gets laid then the concrete is poured over the top. The only way to retrofit it is to put the cables on top of your existing slab then pour another 50-100mm slab on top. There are similar underfloor heating systems that can be placed under carpet but not under an existing concrete slab ( as far as I know anyway ) . Stewie Re: retrofit polished concrete flooring 3Apr 13, 2014 5:49 am Seriously Ive looking at polished concrete for years. Its great but a bit of fashion ATM. I'd be looking into high quality Large polished tiles, I reackon they look even better. polished concrete is really really expensive and really easy to muck up. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15904 |
