Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 02, 2014 2:29 pm Hi All, Is it possible to render a pine retaining wall? A pine retaining wall is something we could do ourselves but a brick/cinder block one one would be a lot more work and expensive. Would there be any way to prevent cracking of the render? We are looking to do a total of 30m in the backyard with around 10m of gabion baskets to break up the monotony. Any comments appreciated Re: Rendering Pine Retaining Wall 2Apr 02, 2014 3:55 pm I'm not certain but I would think that most timbers would have too much movement to hold a render finish without it cracking (or perhaps have other issues like absorbing too much moisture before it sets etc that would lead it to fail anyway). Would lining it with cementing sheeting not give you a similar finish that you could just paint? Alternatively and depending on the height of the wall you can get blocks that have interlocking lips that don't need cement etc. And just a final note our council restricts retaining walls for DIYers up to 600mm high, after that you need an inspection or engineer (not quite sure which) but maybe check this out regardless of which option you choose. A cement sheet veneer does sound like the easiest solution. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
