Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 02, 2014 7:39 am Hello All I am using roller blinds purchased from Spotlight for windows in a unit. Unfortunately the window sizes are not standard and if I want the blinds to fit inside the window frame I will need to cut them down in size. I have head that this is possible but would love some advice on how to do it. I was thinking I could just use a band saw at work on the whole rolled up blind so that I cut through both fabric and the metal roller all at once. I would cut an appropriate piece from each side so that it was still centred. Has anyone done this...is there a better way to do - does disaster beckon if I use the band saw method? Thanks for any help Davo Re: Cutting Roller blinds to fit windows? 2Apr 02, 2014 5:06 pm You won't get the edges straight doing it that way. You need to unroll it and cut the material. Then pull the ends out and cut the tube. I'm assuming they are the cheap ones that aren't sewn on the edges? Unless you are getting the REAL cheap and nasty ones you can probably get them just as cheap from a small local supplier made to fit. I'd give you my supplier but I don't know where you are slo may not be any use. Re: Cutting Roller blinds to fit windows? 3Apr 03, 2014 10:14 am Thanks Travelbug - yes I see what you mean...and after thinking about it a bit more, I can imagine that having the roller and fabric exactly the same width might lead to problems... Although I am in canberra - the apartment I am fixing up is in Sydney (mosman) and I would be more than happy to get the name of the someone who may be able to help! Pm me if you prefer. Cheers and thanks again for your advice... Davo Re: Cutting Roller blinds to fit windows? 4Apr 08, 2014 2:28 pm Hi All Just following up - well I did this on the bandsaw and it worked very well. No fraying or grabbing and I have a nice smooth edge. I wrapped the cut site in masking tape which helped. A test cut straight on the material was not as neat but cutting through the tape avoided any grabbing of the material at the start of each one.
