Not hard to see the link. "generated the figure of 12,000 based on its nationwide inspections." In other words, they extrapolated the figures based on a relatively small number of inspections. False methodology if ever there was one. Its really just common sense, decks are not all or nothing. If they are on the way out, they will start to wobble, and/or the handrails will start to become shaky. PLenty of warning time. I was surprised to read that
What the hell is this country coming to??!! Cant anyone employ common sense anymore, or does every possible decision that anyone with half a brain can make, now need automatic rubber stamping? Yegods, this bullsh1t has stopped Qlders from enjoying pools with all the fee sucking bureaucracy they have introduced with that! ACT - the loony state! Re: Decks at risk of collapse 4Apr 02, 2014 2:40 pm I don't think this was motivated by any conspiracy in the housing industry. I would simply take it as a reminder to go out and check the deck. Also I think there is a valid point in considering how much weight your deck can take. Will it take the weight of all the people you can fit on it? I also don't think it is a bad idea to have mandatory house inspection reports done before buying or selling. I think this forum shows well enough that we don't all know what we are looking at. You might term this having half a brain or no brain at all but then borrowing some brains might be the way to go. The real question with the house inspection reports are more to do with "how accurate are they?" And do they make a difference to housing standards in the long run? 1 10358 Hi there, We've just build a new hardwood (Greybox) deck and am wondering whether firepit protective mats/surfaces are sufficient? I'm not sure that they're heat… 0 2115 |
