A section of ceiling cornice recently collasped in my bedroom due to a leaking roof (remember April rain in Sydney) . The repair is covered by insurance but I am concerned how the repair may end up looking. I have not had an assessor look at it yet. The ceiling is 68 y.o and I doubt that the same design of cornice could be sourced. Would a plasterer make up a new piece from a mould taken from existing cornice or just replace the entire cornice length around the ceiling ? I have had trouble with Insurance assessors before with them trying to coerce me into the quick fix. Unfortunate thing is, it then will be different to the rest of your home. I’d also have a good look at your ceiling paster as well, and make sure there is no problem with it as well. Might as well get the insurance to cover everything! And the re painting of the cornice. Hows the carpet????? Some plasters will try to find your cornice and see if they can get it or something close. Especially in Sydney…there are a few specialists in plaster moulds up there!
