We will have some soil left over from the earthworks - just wondering what peoples thoughts are about using some of the soil to level out the back section of the yard? Or just keep it with a slight slope? Re: Earthworks - to level or not to level the block? 2Mar 03, 2014 7:51 am It will depend a lot on whether you intend to have formally landscaped backyard with lush plants, waterfalls etc and minimal lawn. Stepped landscaping can look very nice with small rock walls and ground cover plants tumbling over them etc but level it if you have kids and intend to have it as mostly turf. A level lawn is so much better for kids to play on. If you do decide to level it you will need to build a retaining wall on the existing lower side.
