Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 06, 2014 12:40 pm Hi, I have built with a large volume builder in VIC, lets say their initials are PD. The home has a warranty for seven years. We are into year three and the water pipe out the front has developed a leak. I have contacted the builder, as the water pipe gave us trouble before, and we fixed it, however it does seem like we need an expert. They seem to say that we had the area landscaped three years ago, and that *may* have caused the damage. The landscaping we did was scattering wood chips around the front garden which in my mind, shouldn't damage metal pipes. The builder refuses to send us warranty information, says we will have to get our own plumber to fix it. They seem to be happy for us to go to Consumer Affairs and apparently any fault that occurs for this fist time has to be fixed by ourselves. Feels like a cop out to me. And here more on principle than anything else. Any advice? Re: New Home Builders Warranty VIC- Does it mean anything? 4Feb 07, 2014 3:24 pm You could get a plumbing inspector out to look at the pipe but that would probably cost. I would not really recommend going through Consumer Affairs as a mediator to help as nothing that is agreed at the meditations is enforceable and can also be used against you at VCAT if you take it to a hearing. Builders would not be scared in the least by dealing with Consumer Affairs. There should be insurance information on your contract ie the name of the insurance company. Perhaps a call to the Building Commission would be helpful to understand what the building warranty covers. What type of water pipe are we talking about here? Given that it's metal, I am assuming that it is mains pressure pipe. karmaz I have contacted the builder, as the water pipe gave us trouble before, and we fixed it, however it does seem like we need an expert. You posted: "we fixed it, however it does seem like we need an expert". If "we" means that 'you' illegally "fixed" it, say goodbye to any chance of getting the builder or original plumber to repair it free of charge at their time and expense. Who was "we" and is the "expert" you think you now need in effect a plumber? If the "expert" you now need isn't a plumber, then who is it? If the above doesn't apply, then is the hassle worth it over would should be a simple plumbing job costing maybe $300? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
