Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Austral bricks?? 3Jan 12, 2014 4:47 pm Hi, yes of coarse we are in Victoria outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, we have just been to colours with our builder and have chosen this brick "homestead red" we originally liked a brick called Kooyong" but have since found out it has been discontinued! so Homestead red is our second choice, we were hoping we might be able to do a drive by on a house made with this brick. Re: Austral bricks?? 4Jan 12, 2014 7:26 pm Is there a display for austral bricks anywhere near you? They may actually have a wall built with them. the brick companies do that here in the west. Also if you ask your builder, as long as it's not a brand new brick they may be aware of a few houses currently going up in your area which have this brick or a display that has used it. Best wishes with your search. Re: Austral bricks?? 5Jan 13, 2014 10:39 am We are building with Austral bricks, Homestead Tan though, as we are not a fan of red bricks. If you are in Melbourne, the Austral display centre is on High St Thomastown, just north of the ring road, they have a list of houses in nearby estates that used a particular brick, definately worth going to. Re: Austral bricks?? 6Jan 13, 2014 6:30 pm Thank you so much we will go for a drive this weekend, the brick choice is a major issue , as the samples you get to see during colours, can look so different when you see them as a house. Can you tell me what colour roof and gutters you went with? Using Homestead tan, we originally were going classic red brick with dark roof and gutters, but the homestead red looks a bit orange! Compared to the Kooyong which is no longer available. We don't mind black bricks but l wonder if the house will attract the heat ? I can't imagine red roof on a black house (bit to haunted house) lol Re: Austral bricks?? 8Jan 14, 2014 7:52 am Sanna Thank you so much we will go for a drive this weekend, the brick choice is a major issue , as the samples you get to see during colours, can look so different when you see them as a house. I can't imagine red roof on a black house (bit to haunted house) lol We went with Classic Cream Roof with paperbark gutters, here are a couple of photos: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Obviously a cream coloured roof is not for everyone, but we wanted a light coloured roof to help keep the house cool in summer. So we wanted a darkish brick to offset it. Re: Austral bricks?? 9Jan 14, 2014 11:39 am Hi Sanna, I originally chose the homestead red as I wanted red bricks and that colour was in my builder's standard range. But after looking at walls made of the homestead red (on already constructed houses and at the Austral display in Thomastown) I was not at all a fan - it really was far too orange for my liking! In the end I decided to upgrade to Lawson bricks which have a bit of grey in them. The upgrade cost under $2,000 and I'm very happy with the result (mind you, I did have the brickie who did the display homes working on my house and he did a fabulous job). Not sure if they still make the Lawson as my house was completed 3 years ago. Hope that helps Re: Austral bricks?? 10Jan 14, 2014 5:21 pm Hi your house looks great! We think the homestead red look s a bit orange also, safer to go and have a look at the austral display, thank you for the photos. It's the most major part of the build, we want the least amount of render possible , so we want to get it right!
