The house is infested with borer beetle, so I'm a bit paranoid about giving insects etc. easy access to the house. Do I seal this opening, and if so, do I use expanding foam or some sort of mesh? Or is the opening normal and necessary for condensation to drain? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks! Re: Ridge Capping opening, tin roof, do I seal? 2Jan 08, 2014 12:30 pm I'd block it for animals like ringtail possums, rats and mice. Borers will get in anywhere especially if you already have them present. Crunched up chicken wire stuffed in there will let air flow but keep the critters out. I left a 1.5cm diameter stick in there while the foam expanded and dried, then pulled it out once it was dry. Air and moisture can still escape, but possums can't get in and rats too, I'd say. Re: Ridge Capping opening, tin roof, do I seal? 6Feb 21, 2014 10:27 pm I think the idea of the crunched up chicken wire was a much better solution and more in line with good building practice The solution provided 1 a mechanical barrier preventing the access if vermin , rats and possums 2 an effective ventilation opening to allow air circulation and help prevent dry rot Not particularly related But it is worth noting that Your roof appears to be metal, they're renown for condensation buildup on the underside They need heaps of ventilation So if have blocked access with foamafill ( which is fine) you should now ensure there are sufficient vents, grills, weeps hold openings to make sure the roof can breath We have a Victorian style ripple iron fence out the front that has some moulded timber capping. Probably 15+ years old and has cracked and splintered in parts...not really… 0 2492 I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5199 4 14297 |
