Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 23, 2013 8:39 am Hi all, We've got a few phone points in the house and the first one is for a back to base alarm. I discovered that the rest of the points don't work unless the alarm is plugged in. This seems strange to me but our electrician says this is normal. Looking for any advice about whether it's normal or not. I wonder what happens if the alarm gets a fault and we need to unplug it - then we lose our home phone too... Thanks. Re: Phone and alarm wiring 2Dec 23, 2013 4:23 pm I think that makes sense, the alarm system must have control of your phone line otherwise an intruder could simply pick up a phone in your house and dial a few invalid digits then leave the phone off the hook, thereby preventing the alarm from dialling back to base. Re: Phone and alarm wiring 3Dec 24, 2013 8:14 am Thanks Shane, I can see your point but my brain is telling me this is an issue when the alarm is not even plugged in, so it has to be something in the actual wiring of that point. My experience with multiple points is you can pick which point you plug your phone into - doesn't have to be the first.
