We are building and definitely will install a solar system.
We went to Monier today and saw these solartile.
Has anyone used them, how are they compare to your basic solar panels?
What would be the cons and pros?

Re: Solartile vs solar panel 2Dec 01, 2013 3:47 pm For: Looks neater Against: Solar panels are less efficient the hotter they get. Built into the roof they would not have the same air flow past the back which would keep them hotter. One advantage of separate solar panels that most people forget is they shade the roof which helps to keep the house cooler. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Solartile vs solar panel 3Dec 09, 2013 4:27 pm Installing solar panels will decrease your energy bills. There is cons and pros both may be possible but solar panel have several advantages like efficiency, greater power output etc. I suggest you to install solar panel system rather then solar tile system. Re: Solartile vs solar panel 5Mar 11, 2015 6:53 pm Solar tiles are less efficient in terms of converting sunlight into electricity.
Implementation of solar panels is also quite easy as you can place them anywhere on the roof where they can get the maximum radiations without changing existing structure of your roof. While solar tiles may require changes in your existing roof structure because they should be placed at a certain angle to produce substantial amount of heat. In your case, as you have mentioned that you are building a new house, solar tiles can be an option for you because you can design your roof accordingly.. Re: Solartile vs solar panel 7Mar 21, 2015 6:33 am I don't have any experience with the Monier product, but I do have experience with Tractile. A very well engineered product. Has the added advantage of having thermal as well, so it generates PV as well as heats water. The water bot only provides you with, well, hot water, but also acts as a heat sink for the PV components and makes them operate at a much higher efficiency. The Tractile roof system also gives your roof an R value which is much higher than colourbond or cement tiles.
