Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 29, 2013 10:49 am Hi, I'm trying to find some good plans for ideas for a multi generation dwelling? Needs to be one storey & wheelchair accessible... Hence the need, my son has special needs and my inlaws have offered to live close by to help us. So 4 bedder one side 2 bedder the other? Has anybody recently built one like this that can offer advice and possibly give an idea on cost... TIA Re: Multi Generation Dwelling Plans... 2Nov 29, 2013 3:35 pm I think you would be best off talking to an architect, or custom builders. Cost will come down to size and your location. That's the sort of inclusions you should be designing your new house around - wider doorways, no internal changes in floor levels etc You also don't need an architect ( unless you want to pay a lot more money for essentially the same service ). Just find yourself a good house designer or draftie who is up with the necessary requirements for universal design. I'd be looking at privacy (noise and personal) for both parts - but easy access between. Also are they meant to be stand alone - ie kitchen-ette ? Showers without hobs are modern anyway - and wheel chair doesn't have to mean major changes. Door ways might be wider etc. Windows - maybe a bay window with seat around might be an idea ? Wide enough to manoeuvre in. I'd design yourself - ie what you feel you want - then follow the advice above. Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6890 Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much.
