Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 21May 22, 2008 8:05 pm I think my front loader is 7kg or 7.5kg...it's LG and has 4 star water efficient and energy efficient rating. It was from Harvey Norman about 18 months ago and is still going strong. I think it cost $700 but we got $300 back from the council in water saving rebates. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 22May 23, 2008 4:20 pm We have the Samsung 7kg front loader that was the best Buy in the Choice reviews, I think it was about $800, but we find that it is crap. There is a space where socks adn small things can get out between the rubber and the front where the door is. Hubby had to pull apart our 1 year old machine to get out one of his work socks that had managed to, somehow, get out of the bowl and around the outside of the drum and it woulndt allow water to go in, or the drum thing to turn. As well as this it has cought some of our things, not all small, bra ends (now puting them in those bag things) boxer shorts, trouser legs, adn a few other things and twist and twist and twist them (I am guessing it happens during the spin cycle) until we are left with ruined clothes.
Cant wait for this washing machine to die so I can get a different brand. Sandra Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 23May 23, 2008 4:23 pm we moved from a top to a front due to laundry space, its brilliant. yes it takes longer but its so quiet, doesnt unbalance when you throw three pairs or heavy pants in, you can add to the load but it takes a while to open the lock so we never bother and so far about one sock in 6 months has missed out. It takes longer to wash but you can really stack heaps in and things come out allot drier due to the 1600 rpm spin speed.
Long hair gets caught on the seal which sticks to the door so you need to check it each wash otherwise it can drip a tiny bit of water. We got the washer dryer used the dryer once or twice but handy to have since we dont have space for a second device. Got the LG with a 5 year warrenty on motor (direct drive no belts) and 2 year on electronics, the extended warrenty was ~150 my cousin said mainboars are ~300 so we choose to take the risk. Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 24May 24, 2008 2:43 pm Oh good point sirgoat about the "balance". I can have a couple of items of clothing on a delicate cycle with a 800 or 1000 spin and it does the job without me having to re-balance the load like I used to have to do with my top loader! Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 25May 26, 2008 9:06 pm Well, we ended up buying the AEG L86800, 7kg front loader.
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We're also hoping to get the additional 3 year manufacturers extended warranty as well, (for an additional 3% of RRP), which i think is well worth it in my opinion, thus making it a 6 year warranty, which should be adequate enough i hope. I can't wait to have a new washing machine in the house.....i'll even try to enjoy doing the washing just to see it all working!!!! How sad hey??? I'm sure the novelty will wear off eventually!!! Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 26May 26, 2008 9:10 pm Hey P,
I didnt listen to the installer and used too much powder - had to run the wash again I didnt think half a scoop would be enough!! I do love my front loader, so quiet, you will laugh at yourself when you start telling people you cant wait to put a load of washing on!! Paula Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 27May 28, 2008 8:17 am Paula Hey P, I didnt listen to the installer and used too much powder - had to run the wash again I didnt think half a scoop would be enough!! I do love my front loader, so quiet, you will laugh at yourself when you start telling people you cant wait to put a load of washing on!! LOL they use only 1/2 a cup of powder!!!! REALLY??? There you go, another saving that justifies the purchase price for the husband.... We paid for it yesterday, but not taking delivery until after handover....I can't wait!!! Next, i have to try and wangle a new fridge.....but i'm probably pushing uphill at this stage.... Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 28May 28, 2008 8:27 am Make sure you also only use front loader "matic" washing powder Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 29May 28, 2008 8:51 am mudtrilogy Make sure you also only use front loader "matic" washing powder Thanks Mudtrilogy, now thats one thing i didn't think of? We use Omo Sensitive as our eldest has eczema, just had a look at the box and they have a "matic" version for front loaders....Phew...breathe a sigh of relief.......as many other brands make him break out. Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 30May 28, 2008 12:47 pm I agree with everything tdn has said. We have had an LG 7.5kg front loader for 3.5 years - it was a wedding present - paid $999 at the old Myer Mega Mart, and it has been wonderful. Leaves clothes in excellent condition.
And you do get used to the longer washing times! I like to think they are getting a more thorough clean now Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 33Jul 02, 2008 2:00 pm I love front loaders, and will get a new one when we move to the new house, but my current one is terrible.
We have an LG and its extremely harsh on clothes. Things look worn and ragged that are under 6 months old, even if they've only been washed a handful of times. Will be getting an asko or a miele for the new place. Building in manor lakes 2008 Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 34Jul 02, 2008 2:18 pm Just saw this, and haven't read thru everyone's answers, but I have a Miele front loader, which I love. Our water consumption was considerably reduced (4 kids, so I wash every day) and the cycle is no longer - 41 mins for a "normal" wash. I love it! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 36Jul 02, 2008 5:32 pm Oh, REALLY, Paula??? Bummer.....I even have a'short wash' cycle that's 30 mins!!! Mine's only about 14mths old (not BRAND new) but it's the 'honeycomb drum' one, so maybe they've cut the cycle times on newer models????[/i] Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Front Loading Washing Machines 40Jul 02, 2008 5:57 pm I haven't actually USED the quick wash - same reason as you, Paula!!!
The temp I use depends on what I'm washing - I might put it on 50 deg for towels, but normally I set it to 30 or 40. I read somewhere that cold water washing is just as effective...don't know where that was (maybe on a "ColdPower" box??????? ) I like to do the towels & bedlinen in a hotter wash ,I think probably purely b/c of the psychological effect!!!!!!
