Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 16, 2008 7:51 pm Well we all now know about what you have to put up with tradies at times.
Sometimes they are my best friends….sometime I could shoot them! I was at a clients today, while I was there the painter showed up. Client had already shown me paint drips on embroidery she had done and on her beautiful timber table….not to mention the timber floor!!! What happened to drop sheets? As we were talking painter was setting himself up for his days work…..10.30am…..well better late than not at all I say. He scrapped his ladder not once but 3 times on the timber floor, good thing they are getting it re-done when he’s finished, gee, wounder why? I then told him we were using pure white for the ceiling…..I get back….. “I put a few drops of black and in my ceiling white, it helps to cover better” WT……???? I said pure white! So again I said……NO….pure white ONLY! I then went through my spiel as to why I needed pure white, not that I should have. I got my way……I think? Let this be a lesson to you all…..you may ask for something, but do you get it? Do your colours look the same as what you thought you asked for? I hope so! We just had the painters in to tidy up the house ready for the market. He did things we didn't ask for and didn't do things we did!!! (only a few though) Our mistake was not have a written list that we both had, we trusted him as we have used him before. When asked about the things we wanted his reply ws 'its not in the quote' Paula Re: Problems with tradies….. 4May 16, 2008 8:04 pm The problem now is….there are so many variations to white….none of them resembling white, that painters are now getting confused!
Paula…..yep that word QUOTE, will get you all the time. Although it seems he was happy to do things not in the quote? I had a quote from a painter for another project I am doing his quote came in at $8700.00 Large job, but I thought….that’s a bit steep! For reason I won’t say, I had to get another quote, his came in today at $6275.00, same job, but a big difference in price! I am constantly surprised with painters. I've mentioned this on P's thread.
I'm not happy with Boral tradies. Idiots chipped and banged up my hebel, bled all over my floors (fighting) and stuffed up the waterproofing on the balcony. So now we have water pouring into our bedroom all over the newly installed gyprock. I'd like to grab those smart mouthed tradies and wring their proverbials . Stiff scotch is in order Re: Problems with tradies….. 6May 16, 2008 8:10 pm Ahhhhh Dy….that’s where you need me……kicker of tradies ars*
I have one builders crew that scatter all over the site when they see me pull up on a job. They like to be out of ear reach, so they can’t hear me go off! Re: Problems with tradies….. 8May 16, 2008 8:30 pm I can’t stress enough how hard it is for me….and other female decorators or designers to get respect from the tradies!
It’s hard…..onsite most men think we are a pure inconvenience to them! Fortunately over the years I have learnt how to approach them and I now have respect and understanding from my guys. And likewise…..I respect them as well. On accession….. I show the in me! But they also know, I know what I am talking about, so don’t argue! It’s a fine line between making a point and pissin* them off……a lesson most home owners should learn. (mind you, he might be one of the behave-like-5 year-old types ) Perhaps just as well he is an apprentice fitter and not in the construction industry!! Re: Problems with tradies….. 12May 17, 2008 9:42 pm we went to the house today and the tradies have scrapped and chipped several external hebel walls dragging gyprock around and through the house. Particularly the entrance. I wonder if they would be so careless if it was their own house.
We're furious and are meeting the builder tomrrow on site to discuss all the damage Helyn & Zonk I'm sure your sons would not be like this group. All of the tradies have been terrific except the gyprock crew. Re: Problems with tradies….. 13May 17, 2008 10:08 pm Quote: Helyn & Zonk I'm sure your sons would not be like this group. Your'e surer than me, then !! Lucky he works for large steel industry and doesn't have to face up to irate home owners. Or perhaps lucky for home owners Re: Problems with tradies….. 14May 17, 2008 10:47 pm I can imagine what my DD will be like in her chosen profession so I understand completely Re: Problems with tradies….. 15May 21, 2008 9:49 pm My mother got a painter in to do the outside of her house and when She got home te painter had used different colours then what she asked for the trims and the soffits and the excuse he used was that the colours he was using looked better (Personally I think he just had left over paint and was trying to pocket the extra cash! And talking about annoying tradies The manager for the house restumpers I'm using keeps lieing to me by saying his boys are onsite the problem is I'm staying with my gf next door and she works from home so it's not hard for me to know whats going on at the site! Elvis has left the building... The site supervisor quit after 2 month on the project. I guess he was just instructed to bark at people, but didn't like when he was… 26 20903 I am not a brick expert, but rendering would be 1 option, it would be costly to do the entire house though.... 2 6680 Hi all, has anyone been ask to do the weeds in their property while in the middle of build? We are under the impression that they are in control of the site while they… 0 2774 |
