Was a fairly smooth process with them - of course every build has little problems but on the whole we really had a smooth time with them. We even looked into building with them again - the staff were once again amazing it was only that they didn't have a plan that suited our every need that we went through a private builder instead. Beechwood under voluntary administration? 3May 14, 2008 5:25 pm I heard on radio this morning that Beechwood is under voluntary admin! Complete shock! We were thinking of building with them last year! The house down the road is building with them and they haven't reach lockup yet. We did wonder why their work stopped in the past few weeks! Re: Beechwood gone?? 5May 14, 2008 6:19 pm I was in shock as well .. although we didn't like any of their display houses up here (some of the interior decorating attempts were horrifying! ) but they were such a well known builder.....
Here's hoping those who are in the process of building with them will be covered and won't lose too much Fiona Re: Beechwood gone?? 6May 14, 2008 6:36 pm I have to say I’m not surprised. I have been waiting for this for 3 years.
It’s a long story as to how I know what I know. I feel very sorry for them, and especially anyone who is building with them. I hope they are able to get assistance and get back on their feet. Its always sad to hear of a large business going under! http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/s ... 21,00.html Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Beechwood gone?? 7May 14, 2008 7:37 pm this happened a couple of years ago, they simply sold off some assets and kept going. Re: Beechwood gone?? 8May 14, 2008 7:57 pm hi michelle,
Can I ask how you knew about or expected this beforehand? Re: Beechwood gone?? 9May 14, 2008 8:01 pm Very briefly….. Relatives of mine sold land to Beechwood, a few years ago.
Beechwood were very upfront with their problems back then. I give them full credit for their honestly! I thought it was because of the bad/older style decor! Re: Beechwood gone?? 11May 14, 2008 8:05 pm sammy Thanks, that explains it! I thought it was because of the bad/older style decor! Good thing I don’t decorate for them then! Quote: In the past three years the Office of Fair Trading has received 119 complaints about Beechwood ... The company has also appeared regularly in the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal, with the consumer complaints body hearing, on average, one case a month against the project home builder since February 2005 ... the administrator would know in several weeks whether another builder would be able to complete Beechwood's homes or deposits could be returned where work had not commenced. "If they can't, consumers will be able to lodge a home warranty insurance claim," After 4 years - we're in! Re: Beechwood gone?? 14May 15, 2008 11:03 pm The news tonight said that Masterton would complete Beechwood's partially-built homes at no extra cost. Considering I'm not a fan of Masterton, I think what they have offered is great. Hopefully everyone will get their home finished quickly.
Judie Re: Beechwood gone?? 15May 16, 2008 6:32 pm I thought it was great that Masterton offered to come to the rescue, or maybe it's just partly to the rescue They took out a large ad in the morning paper today stating that anyone who had paid their initial deposit to Beechwood but had not signed their building agreement yet should contact them, as they would waive the deposit and finish their home.
No mention of the poor people who have signed the contract or are already into the building process. If you've just paid the initial deposit, that's no real biggie in $$$ terms of the whole thing to walk away from or lose, but for those who have made several sizeable progress payments, the stress continues....I don't think any rescue is quite at hand for them yet. We built 13 years ago with Beechwood and found them extremely professional and did not have ANY problems at all (unlike we have expereinced this time). And yes, I always thought their display homes looked like bordellos - just YUK - they never changed their style! Built a Clarendon 'Balmain' 2008 Re: Beechwood gone?? 16May 22, 2008 7:16 pm The guy that owned Beechwood sold the business a few years back to his brother.
Just before christmas 07, the original owner and his son were looking to buy it back for something like $16mil cash but it didnt go ahead.... I wonder why! The original owner now owns Asquith homes and the son owns Alkira homes. These guys must have some big $$ to go offering cash like that.
